Thank you!

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincerest gratitude and thanks to everyone who volunteered, help spread the word, championed, voted and took the time to learn about A Better Maple Ridge.

Our success in the 2022 elections couldn’t have been possible without you, and from the bottom of our hearts we want to thank you.

The campaign trail was not easy and the path to victory was wrought with speed bumps and obstacles, and we fully anticipate our time in the municipal council chambers will have its own unique set of challenges. But Maple Ridge spoke and we listened. You want a new kind of council. A council based in transparency, positivity, collaboration, public engagement and empathy. We’re committed to uphold these values as the basis of how we govern so that we can achieve our unified vision of a better Maple Ridge.

We’re eager to roll up our sleeves and get to work, but in the meantime, we just wanted to express our gratitude for all of you that contributed.

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for your support and vote on Saturday. I'm honoured to be one of your new city councillors.

This colonial structure of municipal government in Maple Ridge operates on the traditional and unceded territories of the Katzie First Nation and Kwantlen First Nation. I've learned that municipal government was a recent and uninvited addition to this area - the first mayor was elected in 1874 - while the Katzie First Nation and Kwantlen First Nation have been here for time immemorial. Maple Ridge has a lot to do when it comes to reconciliation, and I acknowledge I now carry a large portion of that responsibility.

A shoutout to many of the other great candidates who ran in this election - Sarah Little - Maple Ridge Council candidate, Rebecca Stiles, Bhupinder Johar for Council, Rajinder Chhina, Jeffrey Martin, and more - and all the work they put into sharing their visions for change in Maple Ridge. I learned a good deal from them. You folks rock!

A special thank-you to my colleagues and friends on A Better Maple Ridge - mayor-elect Dan Ruimy and councillors-elect Dozie for Council, Korleen Carreras for Maple Ridge City Council, and Elect Sunny Schiller. And also to councillors-elect Ahmed Yousef and Judy Dueck Councillor - I look forward to learning so much from you.

After all the hugging and cheering on election night, a volunteer pulled me over and told me that this is when the hard part starts. We have so many great things in our city - the deep-rooted community spirit and all the folks who get involved, the parks, the mountains and rivers - and also so many thorny issues to tackle. In the next four years, please stay involved. Please send me and the rest of your councillors your questions, ideas, and comments. Call us. Email us. Tell us your thoughts about what needs to change and what we should celebrate. I definitely don't have all the answers. And you are my boss!

The inaugural meeting of the new council is Nov 1st and my contact info will be on the city's website for easy reference anytime. Hit me up! I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you to the citizens of Maple Ridge for putting your trust in me and electing me to city council. I am honoured and humbled to have you support.

Thank you to everyone that stopped me in the street to chat, opened your door when I knocked, or joined us at one of our many coffee events and gatherings. It’s been wonderful getting to know you, hearing your stories, and why you love our community. I also appreciated you sharing your struggles and ideas on how we can build a better Maple Ridge. Your voice matters. The community was looking for change and I’m grateful you chose us as an avenue for that change. We’re going to work every day to live up to that expectation and challenge.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all that candidates for putting your name forward this election. I have enjoyed getting to know you better and hope that our paths cross again in the future. It is never easy to put your name forward and you should be proud of what you accomplished.

Congratulations to my A Better Maple Ridge team mates: Dan Ruimy, Dozie for Council, Elect Sunny Schiller, and Jenny Tan for Maple Ridge City Council – It has been an honour to work with you and I’m so proud of the campaign we ran. One of respect, collaboration, and positivity. I’m also looking forward to working with Judy Dueck and Ahmed Yousef. I have a lot to learn from you and your experience in office.

Big hugs to the Better Maple Ridge team of volunteers – especially the election planning committee – as Tina Turner would say - you're simply the best!!! This is your election win. Special shout out to your families that supported you spending many hours getting us to the finish line.

To my family and friends: thank you for always supporting me over the years and for your continued encouragement as I ran for council this time. Especially my husband and children, Mateo and Emilio. Your love and support is my super power!

Now the hard work begins. Our diversity is our strength, and by working together we can build a more inclusive and vibrant community!
