The 2026 theme, "Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being," recognizes the vital role Indigenous midwives play in supporting healthy pregnancies, safe births, cultural continuity, and the well-being of families and communities.

August 1 marks Emancipation Day in Canada, commemorating the day in 1834 when the Slavery Abolition Act, 1833 came into effect across most of the British Empire.

Emancipation Day honours the resilience, achievements, and enduring contributions of Black communities in Canada. It is also a time to reflect on our shared history, learn from it, and reaffirm our commitment to confronting anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, and all forms of discrimination.

Today is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

This year's theme, "Trapped Behind the Scam," shines a light on a growing form of human trafficking where people are lured by fake job offers, then exploited and forced to participate in online scam operations by organized criminal networks. Raising awareness is an important step in preventing exploitation and supporting survivors.

At Family Transition Place, we stand with survivors and remain committed to creating a future where everyone can live free from exploitation, violence, and abuse.
