Her Excellency the Right Honourable Louise Arbour was installed June 8, 2026, as Canada's 31st Governor General, a career built on one conviction: Canadian Justice is not a spectator sport.

She has shown up for people whose dignity was on the line. Including Canadian women - 50% of the country’s talent pool.

Your role matters. Your voice matters. The seats that will open because you hold yours matter.

The job is hard. The shoes are big. We know you'll exceed every expectation. And we are here for you. Cheering you on.

Because it really matters.

Looking at on our way to Canada Day.

Representation matters. When women and gender-diverse people are present at decision-making tables, our democracies are better equipped to address the challenges and opportunities facing our communities.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to an end, the realities facing women in politics don’t.

Harassment, isolation, and the pressures of public life continue to shape who feels able to lead.

As Governor General Mary Simon concludes her tenure, Equal Voice extends our deepest gratitude for her remarkable service to Canada.

Her appointment as Canada's first Indigenous Governor General was a historic milestone.

Her vision of a Canada that embraces diversity, builds genuine relationships with Indigenous peoples, and respects every person has spoken directly to the work we do every day. Her compassionate approach to mental health has also resonated deeply with the women in our network, helping make the path to public life more sustainable and humane.

Thank you, Governor General Simon, for your dedication to gender equality and women's leadership in Canada. We wish you a warm and well-deserved retirement.
