Manitoba has become the first province in Canada to officially recognize Anti-Palestinian Racism across government. This is a historic step toward addressing anti-Palestinian racism and advancing Palestinian human rights.

From bringing children from Gaza to Manitoba for urgent medical care to establishing a K–12 Anti-Islamophobia Action Plan, raising the Palestinian flag, and recognizing the Nakba at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Manitoba has taken a leading role nationally.

As Minister Kennedy noted, we cannot adequately address Islamophobia without understanding its connection to Palestine and Palestinian human rights. Confronting anti-Palestinian racism is essential to addressing Islamophobia in all its forms.

This is a significant moment for Palestinians and for all Manitobans who believe human rights must apply equally to everyone. Recognition alone will not bring overnight change, but it gives public institutions a clearer framework to address anti-Palestinian racism and gives Manitobans a stronger basis to speak up for Palestinian human rights. We encourage governments across Canada to follow Manitoba’s lead and formally recognize and address anti-Palestinian racism across their own institutions.

NCCM also congratulates all the Northern Lights Awards recipients: Dr. Jennifer W. Rahman for her contributions to medicine, Mian Hameed for his tireless work with seniors, Rania Ibrahim for her inspiring youth leadership, and Isha Khan, CEO of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, for her leadership in advancing human rights. Under her leadership, the Museum launched its Nakba exhibit, Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present.

Toronto must not accept increasing Islamophobic hate as the new normal.

We’ve reached out to every major mayoral candidate to ask what their record has been and what their policy commitments are.

Mayoral candidate Olivia Chow has committed herself to enacting all of NCCM’s municipal policy suggestions for checking, preventing, and fighting hate in Toronto.

No community deserves to operate or live in fear of violence and hatred. Toronto, Canada’s most diverse city, must stand against all forms of hate.

We urge all candidates to make the fight against hate and Islamophobia one of their top priorities as voters head to the polls this month.

This week, a billboard inviting the public to celebrate Islamic Heritage Month at Halifax’s Ummah Masjid and Community Centre was vandalized.

The words “Join us” was changed to “Fear us.”

This kind of ongoing Islamophobia, which takes so many forms, is exactly why those in the area should join the community in their Islamic Heritage Month event this weekend.

It’s time to join together and reject hate of all kinds. Now is the time to show support.

The Masjid’s doors remain open, and everyone is welcome.

Ms. Merrifield made multiple offensive statements and posts over a long period of time. It was only a few months ago that she retweeted content calling NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani a “jihad-loving mayor.”

With respect, her behaviour cannot be summed up as a one-time mistake.

We are not aware of any public facing apology that Ms Merrifield has put out.

We encourage all parties to do the right thing and send a clear message to stand against Islamophobia.

It is deeply saddening to see yet another act of vandalism targeting the Muslim community in Halifax. Such acts of hate have no place in our city or our province.

October is Islamic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich heritage, diversity, and contributions of Muslims to Halifax and Nova Scotia. It is especially disheartening to witness such incidents during a month dedicated to celebrating our shared values and the positive contributions of our communities.

We call on our elected officials and community leaders to publicly condemn this act and reaffirm their commitment to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their faith or background, feels safe, respected, and welcome in our community.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the good citizen who witnessed this vandalism and took action. Your actions remind us that standing against hate is a shared responsibility, and that we all have a role to play in building a safer, more inclusive Nova Scotia.

Hate has no place in Halifax. We stand together against Islamophobia and all forms of hate.

This month, we’re exposing FIVE unofficial school rules Muslim students are being forced to navigate.

Rule 4: Don’t take time off for Eid!

Please read this true story.

If you know of anyone who has experienced Islamophobia or anti-Palestinian racism at school, report it to NCCM.

The upcoming election in British Columbia is a pivotal moment not just for one of Canada's largest provinces, but particularly for the Muslim community in Western Canada.

We have witnessed a massive increase in Islamophobic incidents across BC this year, including everything from mosque vandalism to street harassment to car attacks.

It is time to sit down with those vying for top leadership in BC to talk about what they will do to strike a new way forward.

We are organizing community townhalls - ideally with all party leaders - to ask them what their view for the future looks like.

This is why NCCM CEO Stephen Brown will be sitting with BC NDP leader David Eby this Oct 17th for an important conversation about the future of BC and the need for anti-Islamophobia action going forward.

It is a free event and we urge you to register immediately, as spots are being taken up fast. Please attend to participate in this important conversation about what we can all do for our communities in BC.

We are deeply hurt by the comments made by BC Conservative Campaign Director Katy Merrifield where she wrote “F*** Islam,” and made several subsequent posts that demonstrate a pattern of promoting Islamophobic views.

This is of course very concerning to B.C. Muslims and Canadian Muslims broadly, especially we learned yesterday of the racist views of one of the Conservative candidates.

We recognize that Ms. Merrifield has contextualized those remarks. However, at no point did she apologize for her statement or recognize the pain caused, and she has not addressed her pattern of promoting a range of problematic messages.

BC has seen a gigantic uptick in Islamophobia - from cars being driven at people to Imams being attacked in the street to mosques being vandalized.

Yesterday, the BC Conservative Leader made the necessary decision to remove Mr. Joachim Agou from the party for problematic comments he had made in the past.

There is no room for hate in any area of Canadian politics.

We will engage in good-faith conversation with the BC Conservatives about these troubling revelations, but Islamophobia must be addressed.

We must stand together to take action on Islamophobia. This must be a bipartisan commitment.

We reached out to the Bradford campaign after we became aware of this.

No one should allow those who post this kind of nonsense into their ranks.

Mr. Glina, from the reports, appears to have pushed some of the worst Islamophobic narratives and has appeared to have a history of deeply offensive online behaviour.

Unfortunately, this type of Islamophobic messaging has made its way into many corners of Canadian politics and society. We do not have to accept it as the new normal. We must remain vigilant and call out hate wherever we see it.

All candidates must make sure that their campaigns stand for unity and understanding, not Islamophobia or any kind of hate.

More importantly, candidates must commit to action to combatting Islamophobia and all forms of hate.
