☀️📚 What a summer it was at the Paddockwood Library! 📚☀️

As we wrap up our summer programming, we wanted to look back at everything we were fortunate enough to offer our little community this year.

Over the summer we hosted:

🐉 Author Reading & Book Signing with Saskatchewan author Kathie Cram, featuring Let’s Fly: A Dragon’s Quest in Saskatoon

That is a pretty incredible lineup for a little rural library! ❤️

From science, gardening and archaeology to animals, art, magic and Saskatchewan stories, we tried to bring something different to Paddockwood for all ages to enjoy.

A huge thank you to every presenter, entertainer, organization, sponsor, grant provider, volunteer and community member who helped make these programs possible — and especially to everyone who came through our doors and supported them.

And we’re always looking ahead! If there’s a workshop, event, organization, author, artist, expert or presenter you think would be a great fit for our community, please reach out and let us know. We’re always open to new ideas and would love to hear what you’d like to see happening at the Paddockwood Library.

Every person who attends matters. Your support of our fundraisers and our programs is what allows a small-town library like ours to keep bringing opportunities like these into our community.

🍂🌿 Fall is here… which means we’re already thinking ahead to our spring Library Plant Sale! 🌿🍂

As you start bringing plants indoors, dividing your houseplants, and cleaning up those beautiful summer planters, please keep the Paddockwood Library in mind!

If you have:

🪴 Houseplants you’re splitting or propagating
🌱 Outdoor planters filled with houseplants you don’t want to bring inside
🌵 Succulent planters that looked amazing all summer but you don’t want to overwinter
🌿 Extra plants, cuttings or starts that need a new home

—we would be very happy to take them off your hands!

Our annual spring plant sale is one of our most important fundraisers, helping us continue to support our library and bring programs, workshops and events to our community.

Instead of letting those extra plants hit the compost pile, donate them to the library and let us grow them on for next spring’s sale! 💚

Plants can be dropped off at the Paddockwood Library during library hours, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 10am–6pm.

Thank you for continuing to support our little library and helping our plant sale grow year after year. 💚

A huge thank you to Kathie Cram for making the trip out to Paddockwood today and sharing her wonderful story, ‘Let’s Fly: A Dragon’s Quest in Saskatoon’, with us! ❤️🐉📚

Kathie is such an enthusiastic and engaging storyteller, and it wasn’t long before she had everyone out of their seats and joining in on Red’s adventure!

The story begins when little Red the dragon hatches from her egg and has no idea what she is or where she belongs. Luckily, a friendly chickadee is there to witness her arrival and becomes her guide and companion. Together, they fly around Saskatoon searching for Red’s family, visiting some of the city’s most wonderful landmarks along the way — including the Western Development Museum, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Remai Modern, and the Forestry Farm.

It’s such a sweet story about adventure, friendship, belonging, and discovering a little bit of Saskatchewan along the way. 💕 There was something especially lovely about watching the story come to life through Kathie’s energy and enthusiasm and seeing everyone so engaged.

Thank you, Kathie, for spending the afternoon with us and bringing Red’s adventure to Paddockwood.
We truly enjoyed having you! 🐉✨📖

Thank you Dolly 👏

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Association’s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALA’s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

“I’ve always related to that book because I’m the little engine that did!” she said.

Join us Thursday, August 27 at 2:00 PM as we welcome Saskatchewan author Kathie Cram for a reading and book signing of Let’s Fly: A Dragon’s Quest in Saskatoon! 🐉📖

Come meet Kathie, hear about her book, and pick up a signed copy of your own. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support a Saskatchewan author and enjoy one last special afternoon at the library before summer programming wraps up.

A big thank you to the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild for the grant that made it possible for us to host Kathie. We’re so looking forward to hearing from her and learning more about her book!
