Last year, our community lost Josh Bolch, a Savanna School graduate, beloved family member, and friend to many. Josh was an uncle to several of our students, but a true “funcle” to all kids.

Following a celebration of Josh’s life, his family and friends donated $4,000 from their fundraiser to our school, with one thoughtful request: choose something fun for the kids.

Their generosity has helped us purchase fresh sand, shovels, Tonka vehicles, mini sticks, and nets, with plans to build gaga pits as well. As these photos show, the students have already been putting the sand and toys to good use, digging, building, and playing together.

To Josh’s family and friends, and everyone who supported the fundraiser, thank you for including our students in this meaningful tribute. We are grateful to honour Josh’s memory through something that brings children joy.

A little stargazing, right here at Savanna School!

Mrs. Earl built a planetarium in her classroom for her Grade 5/6 students as they learn about the stars. Students climbed inside for a different view of the night sky, without even leaving the school!

Yesterday's Lunch was amazing, and we have a few folks we would like to thank!

First, thank you, Megan Lunquist, for suggesting, planning and preparing the meal. Thank you Yvonne Rogers and Mrs. Yanishewski for donating food. Thank you Emily Bolch and Jamie Hubert for helping to prepare the meal. Lastly, Thank you to Mrs. Langlois and her students for volunteering to help deliver and serve the food!!

Completely unrelated to any other post today, Savanna School is having a turkey dinner with all the fixings!

Megan Lundquist has generously volunteered to prepare a free hot lunch for all our students on Tuesday, October 13. Students will enjoy turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, stuffing, gravy, and buns!

We would love some helping hands to serve the meal. Parents and community members who would like to volunteer can email [email protected], and we will pass your name along to Megan.

Outgrown, not worn out!

We’re excited to launch the Savanna Winter Gear Exchange! Let’s give good winter clothing another season by passing along items our families have outgrown and finding gear that fits.

Everyone is welcome to bring something, take something, or do both. There is no cost and no requirement to contribute before choosing items for your family.

• October 19–23: Drop off clean, dry winter coats, snow pants, snowsuits, boots, toques, neck warmers, mittens, and gloves at the school office.
• October 26–28: Browse the exchange and find gear your family can use this winter. Specific hours will be shared soon.
• November 4: Remaining gear will be available during parent-teacher interviews.

Children’s, youth, and adult sizes are welcome!

We would also love a few volunteers to help sort, set up, welcome families, and pack up afterward. To lend a hand, email [email protected].

Please read the attached letter for full details, including clothing guidelines and how to participate. Together, we can reduce waste, keep good gear in use, and get ready for winter!

UPDATE by popular request: the Savanna School prank investigation continues.

Our highly unofficial investigative team has given the security footage the full Hollywood “zoom and enhance” treatment. We now have a clearer look at the culprit!

Unfortunately, she appears to have worn gloves, rendering our entire fingerprint analysis budget of $0 completely useless.

Does anyone recognize this suspiciously familiar individual? 😂

We’re hoping she comes forward before we have to enhance it again. 👀

Gosh, it's fun being a rural school! Staff arrived at school, thinking someone needed some help; nope, someone just made us an elaborate decoration!! Thanks for the smiles this morning, whoever you are!
