Celebrating 20 Years of Service — Thank You, Jim!
This year, Jim celebrates an incredible 20 years with Squamish Search and Rescue—two decades of answering the pager, learning, supporting his teammates, and helping people when they need it most.
By day, Jim works at VentureWeb. By nights, weekends, and whenever the pager goes off, you will find him right where he’s always been—alongside his teammates, ready to pitch in wherever he’s needed.
When asked what has kept him volunteering for 20 years, his answer comes down to the people:
“I love our team and being part of this group. I also love the challenge of training and calls. It feels like I learn something new almost every time.”
Jim’s time with SSAR has reinforced the importance of being a lifelong learner—and he has tremendous respect for the knowledge and experience within our team.
His advice for anyone heading into the outdoors?
- Prepare for the worst thing that could happen—and have a plan for it.
And his reminder that needing rescue doesn’t mean someone was reckless or unprepared: even experienced and well-equipped people can find themselves in trouble. The mountains are humbling, and compassion matters.
Thank you, Jim, for 20 years of dedication, humility, teamwork, and service to our community.
We are lucky to have you.
