It has been a busy weekend for our team.

So far, our team has responded to six calls involving mountain bikers, rock climbers, hikers, and an overturned kayak with stranded occupants throughout the Sea to Sky corridor. Our members have spent the weekend assisting injured and stranded individuals in a wide range of environments and conditions.

We are also currently assisting the RCMP with an ongoing search at Browning Lake in Murrin Provincial Park involving two individuals who entered the water and did not resurface. Our thoughts are with their loved ones during this difficult time.

As we move into another busy season, we’d like to thank our volunteers and our partner agencies for their continued dedication and teamwork.on

We have some very exciting news to share!

The McLean McCuaig Foundation and Blackcomb Helicopters have generously donated $75,000 in support of our team!

Following the sale of Blackcomb Helicopters in 2025, they wanted to give back to several community partners they have worked alongside over the years, and we are incredibly honoured to have been chosen as one of the recipients of this remarkable donation.

This support will make a meaningful impact on our team and our ability to continue serving the community.

The vehicle has been donated with the intention of either raffling or selling it to help raise additional funds for the team. Estimated to be worth approximately $100,000, this is an incredibly generous contribution that will directly support our operations, training, and equipment needs.

We are extremely grateful to the McLean McCuaig Foundation, Blackcomb Helicopters, and the McLean family for their generosity and continued support of search and rescue.

The BC Wildfire Service has now upgraded Squamish to a HIGH fire danger rating due to the hot temperatures in the forecast.

🔥This means that forest fuels are very dry and the fire risk is serious! New fires may start easily, burn vigorously, and challenge fire suppression efforts. Residents are being asked to be on the lookout for signs of wildfires in our community.

⚠️Thinking about having a campfire? Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Please avoid burning when it’s windy, hot and dry.

🔥 Campfires in any public space including forests, riverbanks, mountainside, beaches and parks are strictly prohibited year-round.

⚠️ As Squamish Fire Rescue prepares for wildfire season, help us by being FireSmart aware. Familiarize yourself with your Home Ignition Zones and how you can minimize your home and property’s vulnerability to wildland fires. Learn more below.

Late last night, our team was asked to assist a group of five young hikers near Garibaldi Lake who were unable to safely continue due to snowy alpine conditions.

Given the overnight timing and location, we requested mutual aid from North Shore Rescue’s night vision helicopter team and Talon Helicopters. The group was safely reached, provided with additional warmth and gear, and flown to the Squamish Airport.

❗️It is IMPORTANT to remember that although trails at lower elevations are drying out, alpine areas around Squamish remain in winter-like conditions❗️

If your plans take you into higher elevations, be prepared for snow travel, colder temperatures, and more challenging conditions than you may expect.

A few reminders before heading out:
• Check current conditions and recent trip reports
• Bring the 10 Essentials
• Carry extra warm layers and a headlamp
• Choose objectives that match your experience and preparedness

Over the past couple of months, we have been a little quieter than usual on our social media-but our team has been hard at work behind the scenes.

With our big move to our new home base at the airport just a couple of weeks away, getting to this point has taken a tremendous amount of work. Countless hours have gone into planning, organizing, and preparing for this transition, but we are all looking forward to this new chapter.

Many of our team members have also been focused on advancing their training, earning their EMR certification and Rope Rescue Technician qualifications.

Despite everything happening behind the scenes, we've also been preparing for our busy season. As the weather improves, our call volume naturally increases.

Today, we responded to two simultaneous calls: the first for an injured skier on Brohm Ridge, and the second for an injured mountain biker. Both calls have now resolved and teams are safely out of the field.

We are grateful for the continued support from our community and proud of the dedication our members bring-ensuring we are ready to respond when it matters most.

AREA CLOSURE: Hanging Gardens to Transit of Venus
A Director's Order is now in effect (April 1, 09:30 (not an April fool sadly)) closing a portion of Shannon Falls Provincial Park due to an unsafe structure suspended on the cliffside of the Papoose.

The closure covers all routes and trails from Hanging Gardens to Transit of Venus (all pitches). Barricades and signage are in place at the trailhead, and BC Parks rangers will be patrolling the area.

BC Parks is in the process of obtaining quotes from rope access companies and expects removal to begin Monday, taking approximately 2 days to complete.
Please respect the closure and stay out of the area until BC Parks has safely removed the structure and the order has been rescinded.

Our hearts are with the Tumbler Ridge community during this incredibly difficult time.

We are thinking of the families and friends affected, as well as our colleagues at Tumbler Ridge Search and Rescue and all partner agencies supporting the response.

Earlier today, our team was tasked to assist an injured climber on Angel’s Crest. A popular multi pitch route on the Chief. The subject had sustained a head injury following a fall.

With daylight fading, time was a significant factor. A helicopter response was requested, with ground teams preparing in the event aerial access was not possible. With minutes of daylight remaining, was able to make the flight and insert one of our Technicians, who was hoisted to the subject. The subject was stable on contact.

A secondary team was positioned on Second Peak to support a potential ground response.

Thanks to the timely response, the subject and her partner were safely flown out before nightfall.

Huge thanks to their crew for their support on this rescue.

Shortly after being stood down, our team was tasked out for a second call on the Chief, this time for lost hikers. We currently have a team on foot making their way up to the party to es**rt them down.
