Daily Bread Food Bank

Daily Bread Food Bank We are Toronto’s food bank. We are on a mission to eliminate food insecurity and advocate for solutions to end poverty.

As a leader in the fight against hunger, Daily Bread is more than a food bank. In addition to providing food, Daily Bread also provides services such as community information and referrals, job training, crisis counselling, community gardening and community kitchens, research and public policy, the Who's Hungry report as well as training workshops for staff and volunteers at our member agencies.

We may ask it live at the debate on Monday, September 14.

It's Hunger Action Month! This year, the month is infused with a heightened urgency.

Toronto is deep in a food insecurity crisis. One in 10 people in Toronto are turning to food banks to make ends meet.

As a city, we can choose to despair at these numbers, or we can choose to roll up our sleeves and get to work.

Calling all interested volunteers 📣📣📣

For the eighth year in a row, we're joining forces with Purolator for the Red Bag campaign, part of their nationwide Tackle Hunger program.

If you're available on September 19 or September 26, we'd love your support in dropping off empty red bags or picking up bags filled with food donations in different neighbourhoods across the city.

We're aiming to collect tens of thousands of pounds in food donations so we can help set Thanksgiving tables at a time when food bank use continues to be at a record high.

These amazing teens sorted enough food for nearly 10,000 meals with us this summer. ☀️

They're part of the Toronto Police Service's competitive Youth in Policing Initiative - Toronto Police Service program, in which they work alongside police officers to develop job skills and gain community experiences.

We loved having them on site three times. They even invited our Volunteer Services team to their graduation ceremony last week. It was a pretty convenient event to attend, considering their building is down the street!

Thank you for working with us in the fight to end hunger. 🤝

Our fundraising team carries a lot on their shoulders! 🏋️ They have high goals because they know the funds they raise put food on the table for families facing hunger across the city.

This year, Daily Bread Food Bank will be spending $22 million on purchased food, compared to $1.5 million pre-pandemic. Much of these funds will be raised in the busy fall.

As we head into the cooler months, you can kick-start our efforts by starting a food drive or fundraiser of your own. Together, we can make sure no one in our city goes hungry. 💛

It's one of the biggest misconceptions we hear at Daily Bread: All we give out is canned goods. 🥫

And while we do give out cans — canned fish is a particularly popular choice among clients — 73% of the food we distributed last fiscal year was fresh or frozen, not shelf-stable.

So for every 4 pounds we distributed, about 3 pounds were produce, milk, yogurt, eggs, meat and more. 🥕 🍅 🥚 🥬 🥩
