🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | September 30🧡

Today, we remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, honour Survivors and their families, and recognize the lasting impacts on First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.

At SPLC, we take this day as an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect on the history and experiences of Indigenous Peoples.

As a community, we continue to create spaces where people are treated with respect, dignity and inclusion, while learning from Indigenous voices and experiences.

♟️ Celebrating Our Chess for Connection Partner, April Zhong! 💛

We’re happy to celebrate April Zhong, founder of Chess for Connection , who has been named the recipient of the 2026 Sean Jackson Scholarship Award for her leadership, academic achievement and commitment to positive social change.

Through our Senior Active Living Centre (SALC), SPLC was pleased to partner with Chess for Connection to offer a free weekly chess program at SPLC, bringing youth and seniors together for a friendly game of chess and a chance to connect across generations.

What started with a game of chess has created opportunities for conversation, friendship and shared moments. We’re grateful to April and the young volunteers who have helped make these connections possible. 💛
