You get a text saying there is a problem with your bank account. It tells you to act now. But is it really from your bank?

A 2025 survey found that about 1 in 3 Canadians had trouble knowing if calls or emails about payments were real or scams.

The message in our picture is an example. Scam messages can look real.

Would you pay for something that never arrives?

An ad says “Today only!” The price looks great. But is the seller real?

A fake online store or seller can take your money and never send your item.

In 2025, people in Canada reported losing $11.7 million to shopping scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Before you buy, stop and check:
• Can you find the seller’s address or phone number?
• What do reviews on other websites say?

Would you put glue on your pizza because AI told you to?

In 2024, Google’s AI suggested adding glue to pizza sauce to keep the cheese from sliding off!

The advice came from an online joke. But AI gave it as a real answer.
It sounds funny, but AI can sound sure and still be wrong.

A 2026 survey found that only about 1 in 5 AI users in Canada say they always check AI answers with another source.

AI can help with ideas and daily tasks. But we still need to check important answers and protect our private information.

Would you believe these “before and after” pictures?

In 2018, a post said these pictures showed damage from a tornado in Quebec.
But both pictures were from Fallout 4—a video game!

A real tornado had happened nearby, but these pictures did not show it.
Anyone can be fooled online. About 1 in 6 adults who use the internet in Canada say they have liked or shared something they later found out was false.

At our Break the Fake workshop, we will learn simple ways to check pictures and posts before sharing them.

Good Morning & Happy Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that in ancient Sparta, people voted by cheering? 📣

According to the ancient writer Plutarch, candidates for the council of elders walked past a crowd one at a time. Judges listened from a nearby room, where they couldn’t see the candidates. Whoever received the loudest cheers won!

That gives “making your voice heard” a whole new meaning!

Today, you don’t have to shout to have a voice. Voting, sharing an idea, or speaking up about something that matters to you are all ways to take part in your community. 💙

Good Morning & Happy Written Wednesday!

Sometimes, the people around us are our greatest supporters. Other times, they can leave us feeling stuck—as though we should be happy where we are and stop hoping for more.

But someone else’s doubts don’t have to set your limits.

Whether your goal is to learn something new, start a business, buy your first home, or follow a dream you’ve held onto for years, give yourself the chance to try. You can appreciate where you are and still want to grow.

Find people who encourage you. Take that first small step. Your goals deserve a chance, even when others don’t understand them.

Be the ocean, even if everyone tells you you’re just a pond. 🌊

Happy Friday!

We did it—we made it through another week! To celebrate, I have a breath of fresh air for today’s Fun Fact Friday.

Did you know that about half of Earth’s oxygen is produced in our oceans? Tiny organisms called phytoplankton act much like plants on land. They use sunlight, water and carbon dioxide to make food—and, in the process, produce oxygen!

Isn’t it incredible that something so small can play such an important role in our world? These tiny life forms produce a huge amount of the oxygen needed by people and many other living creatures.

It’s a wonderful reminder that even the smallest things can make a big difference. If you ever feel small, unimportant or as though your efforts don’t matter, think again. Almost everything we do has value—even if we cannot see its impact yet.
