Find ways to keep cool before the hot weather starts.

If you have an air conditioner, make sure it works properly. If you have ceiling fans or other fans, they can bring cooler air in from outside but may not help at very hot (>35C) temperatures. Fans cannot effectively reduce body temperatures or prevent heat-related illness in people at risk.

Research shows that risky outdoor play is not only good for children’s health but also encourages creativity, social skills and resilience. Kids are going to get minor bumps and bruises – it’s totally normal!

As a parent, it's important to put safety first, and it's important to know when to step back and let kids test their limits. This is particularly true on playgrounds, which provide a safe, controlled space for kids to learn more about what they can do.

Some products can be harmful if consumed in excess or for youth under 14, or people who are pregnant or breastfeeding/chestfeeding.

Unlike fortified foods – like milk with added vitamin D – supplemented foods and drinks have ingredients that have been added to them for reasons other than nutrition. Supplemented foods contain added ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, or caffeine.

Examples include caffeinated energy drinks and vitamin waters.
