Join the Penner-Bethune Club, the YCL, and Manitoba-Cuba Solidarity Committee at the Winnipeg Chilean Association (892 Burrows Ave) for a celebration of International Working Women’s Day and the Cuban Revolution!
This Sunday, March 8th, at 4:00pm, we will present two films by legendary Cuban filmmaker Sara Gómez—Local power, Popular power, and My Contribution, depicting the changing role of women in revolutionary Cuba and commissioned by the Federation of Cuban Women.
Before the screening, please attend the Chilean Association’s special commemoration of International Women’s Day, beginning at 1:00pm and featuring speeches, greetings, and music by Chile Lucha y Canta and others.
“Socialism for Cuban women meant freedom, independence, sovereignty, dignity, social justice, safety for their children’s growth and development, right to equity, right to life, right to decide on their own destiny, to work for a future they dreamed of and defended with all their strength …
“Today we all know where we should be, how to take action and through which means, how to keep living and producing in an organized way during a period of full blockade, of military threat, of war of attrition, even of invasion and occupation, to defeat the enemy; the Federation of Cuban Women has been intensely working in this preparation process … We Cuban women understand that conquering complete equity within our families and in society is only possible within this system.”
