For many visitors, the star of the anniversary event was the solo display of the powerful AJS 37 VIGGEN. Two aircraft of this type were present in Linköping – a twin-seat trainer Sk37E and the AJS 37.
The latter made the sky above Linköping tremble with its RM8 engine in full afterburner mode!

One of my personal favorites of the event was of course the Saab J 35J DRAKEN. Two aircraft of this type were present – unfortunately only one of them was seen in the flight program for a short time.
It was all the more beautiful to be able to photograph this icon from the closest possible distance as it left the parking position. Goosebumps all over!!!

Flygvapnet 100 år 🇸🇪

deHavilland DH.115 VAMPIRE “Convertible"

On the last day of the show there was an incident with a deHavilland DH.115 VAMPIRE, when it lost its canopy during the take-off run. Fortunately, nothing more happened and no one was injured. In the first of the three photos you can see the aircraft just before it taxied onto the runway. On closer inspection, it can be seen that the canopy was not properly closed. The other two shots show the aircraft taxiing back to its starting position after the incident – now as a convertible!

🐯 TIGER, TIGER, TIGER…

For two weeks in May, Araxos Air Base became the centre of NATO tactical aviation.

Hosted by 335 Mira of the Hellenic Air Force, the 62nd NATO Tiger Meet brought together ten NATO Tiger Association units and several guest participants for nine days of intensive multinational air operations over Greece.

Among the most striking participants were Germany’s “Desert Tonka” Tornado ECR and a spectacular selection of tiger-marked Eurofighters and F-16s.

CHECKSIX – la rivista di aviazione militare (numero 3/2026) è in fase di atterraggio! Restate sintonizzati!

Editorial brief:
In questo numero presentiamo tre importanti esercitazioni militari: VOLFA 2025 e ORION 2026 in Francia, insieme al NATO Tiger Meet 2026 in Grecia. A proposito della Grecia: durante la preparazione del nostro articolo dedicato al Tiger Meet abbiamo trascorso ulteriore tempo in una zona ormai ben nota per il volo a bassa quota – la valle del Vouraikos. Questa esperienza sul campo ha ispirato la nascita di un nuovo formato editoriale della rivista, denominato “Spotlight”. Questa sezione sarà dedicata ad approfondire diversi temi aeronautici con un approccio più analitico. La prima edizione è incentrata sul volo a bassa quota e propone un confronto tra la realtà operativa e la sua rappresentazione nei celebri film di Hollywood.

Con questo numero si realizza inoltre un desiderio personale di lunga data: la pubblicazione del capitolo finale della nostra trilogia FLANKER. Si conclude così un’analisi ampia e dettagliata di uno dei caccia più iconici della nostra epoca – come promesso, seguiranno altri approfondimenti.

Per quanto riguarda gli abbonamenti, desideriamo informare i lettori di un cambiamento importante: finora il magazine era disponibile sia tramite il nostro sito sia attraverso varie piattaforme. A partire dal numero 04/2026 ciò non sarà più possibile. La rivista sarà disponibile esclusivamente su www.checksix-journal.com.
