The future of our region is inseparable from the future of Sudan.
Today in Khartoum, I met with H.E. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereign Council of Sudan. Our discussions focused on the current situation in Sudan and the collective responsibility to advance a lasting, Sudanese-led peace.
As a strategic bridge between Africa and the Middle East, peace in Sudan is vital not only for regional stability but, above all, for the millions of Sudanese who continue to bear the greatest burden of this conflict.

IGAD will continue to support the people of Sudan in their pursuit of peace, stability, and recovery.

This morning, I arrived in Khartoum to engage with the leadership of the Republic of Sudan and assess the situation on the ground.
During my visit, I will hold high-level discussions on the path to lasting peace. The future of Sudan belongs to the Sudanese people, and IGAD remains committed to supporting their efforts towards dialogue, peace, and recovery.

Earlier today in Nairobi, Kenya, I held a productive meeting with the media leaders from Kenya and the region, including , CEO of the Media Council of Kenya and the President of the East Africa Press Councils; the Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Journalists and President of the Federation of East Africa Journalists ; and the President of the Kenya Editors’ Guild, Ms.

We discussed the media sector’s vital role in advancing regional integration, peace and security, and journalist safety and wellbeing, while exploring collaboration ahead of the IGAD Media Awards 2026 later this year.

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting H.E. , Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, to discuss prevailing regional developments and ways to further strengthen IGAD’s institutional capacity.
We reaffirmed our shared commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and agreed to work closely in advancing peace, regional integration, and the effective delivery of IGAD’s mandate.
I deeply appreciate Kenya’s steadfast leadership, continued support, and enduring partnership in our collective pursuit of a more peaceful, resilient, integrated, and prosperous region.

The ongoing conflict in has far-reaching consequences for the country and the wider region, underscoring the urgent need for stronger coordination among regional and international peace actors.
At the 3rd Special Envoys/Representatives Forum in Nairobi today, alongside Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. , I underscored the need for a shared strategic assessment, complementarity, and a clear division of labour among partners. Together with the , , , , the Quartet, the Quintet, and other key partners, we reaffirmed that Sudan’s path to peace must remain Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led, supported by coordinated efforts towards lasting peace and stability.

Honored to represent IGAD and delivered speech on historic opening session of the Ethiopian National Dialogue conference today in Addis Ababa.
In my address, I reaffirmed IGAD’s unwavering commitment to supporting inclusive, homegrown processes that pave the way for lasting peace, unity, and prosperity in Ethiopia and the wider region.

I am deeply humbled by the establishment of the "Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu Scholarship Program in Forensic Science" at the Ethiopian Police University.
My profound gratitude to the Ethiopian Federal Police for this honour. Forensic science is the quiet backbone of justice, and this initiative invests in the young generation of the IGAD region who will carry that work forward long after us. I accept this gesture with humility, and with renewed commitment to the service of our region.
