🍻 Friday Night Drinks — Copenhagen

This Friday, we’re raising a glass to freedom, community, and the ongoing long, hard work of building a more perfect union.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States, a reminder that progress has never come easily and has never been guaranteed. Even today, Americans are still fighting for fair representation, equal access to the ballot box, and a democracy that works for everyone.

So come celebrate, commiserate, organize, or just enjoy a drink with fellow Americans abroad. Whether you’re a regular or joining us for the first time, there’s a seat at the table for you.

Let’s Talk About PROPAGANDA

We’re constantly being bombarded with messaging designed to make us angry, afraid, distracted, or divided. So how do we recognize propaganda when we see it? And how do we stay informed without getting completely overwhelmed?

Join Democrats Abroad Denmark for an online discussion about media, misinformation, political messaging, and navigating the internet in 2026.

We’ll also use a couple of short articles shared with attendees beforehand to help get the conversation started.

On the evening of May 4th, 1945, after five years of N**i occupation, the blackout in Denmark ended and the message of liberation spread. After years of darkness, people placed lights in their windows—a simple, visible act of relief, hope, and shared resolve.

Tonight, candles will appear in windows across Denmark in remembrance of that moment.

It’s a quiet but powerful tradition.

For those of us watching events unfold back home in the US, it’s a reminder: long nights of uncertainty don’t last forever. Progress isn’t always fast or easy, but it is possible when people stay engaged and refuse to give up.

So tonight take a moment to remember the end of Denmark’s long night. Light a candle and remember: Democracy doesn’t protect itself. It’s sustained by people who keep showing up, even when it’s hard.

Especially when it’s hard.

The days are finally longer and warmer. It feels like we should be celebrating.

And still… a lot of us are carrying some heavy news out of the U.S., especially when it comes to voting rights and the state of our democracy.

That’s exactly why First Tuesday matters.

Whether you’re feeling energized, frustrated, hopeful, or just need to be around people who get it, you are very welcome to join us tomorrow, May 5th at one of our events:
