Come in and see our display of books to celebrate Black History Month.

This Black History Month, we celebrate the lives, experiences and contributions of Black people who have helped shape Essex across generations. While the arrival of the Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks remains a defining chapter in our county's story, records show that people of African and Caribbean heritage were living in Essex centuries earlier. By exploring these stories, we gain a deeper understanding of our shared history and recognise the contribution Black residents have made, and continue to make, to communities across Essex.
