Buckinghamshire students celebrate A Level results day

Thousands of young people across Buckinghamshire are receiving their examination results today (Thursday 13 August), marking an important milestone as they prepare for the next stage of their education, training or careers.

Students are collecting A Level results, alongside a range of other qualifications including BTECs and NVQs, after months of hard work and dedication.

Buckinghamshire Council congratulates students on their achievements and wishes them every success as they move forward with their plans for the future.

Carl Jackson, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, said:

“Today is an important day for thousands of young people across Buckinghamshire. I would like to congratulate every student collecting their results today. Whether they are going to university, starting an apprenticeship or further training, entering the world of work or exploring other opportunities, this is a momentous step in their journey. I wish them every success for the future.

“Thank you to the parents, carers, teachers and support staff who have worked to help so many young people in our county to fulfil their potential.

“While many students will be celebrating, I know some young people will not have achieved the results they wanted and will be unsure about what to do next. For those students, there is support available.

“I would encourage anyone who needs advice or reassurance to speak with their school, college or training provider and make use of that support and information. There will be options and opportunities to consider.

"I wish every young person getting results today every success with their next step".

A very engaging public meeting on the Local Plan hosted by Cllr Carl Jackson, Councillor Simon Rouse and Cllr Martin Tett. There were residents present from all 6 villages in their ward - Chalfont St Giles, Little Chalfont, Seer Green Village, Jordans Village, Chenies and Coleshill.

It is important that local residents respond to the public consultation to support the Local Plan and its policy of having no new development sites on Green Belt land. This is in spite of the Labour government imposing an aggressive and inappropriate target of 91,000+ homes on Bucks. Lib Dem targets would add another 20,000 to that number.

A full day today with morning and afternoon sessions with one of our fabulous Buckinghamshire MPs, Mid Buckinghamshire's Greg Smith, as we shared his hard work on protecting our countryside and holding HS2 to account.

Meanwhile Labour forcing 91,000+ homes onto Bucks - the Lib Dems would add another 20,000 to that number. 😱 Working hard to show Bucks residents that it is the Conservatives protecting our county, saving the Green Belt, fighting for proper infrastructure funding and delivering a balanced budget as our central government funding is slashed by £45 million.

Labour have cancelled funding for our planned SEND school and continue to cause massive harm to the UK while their Lib Dem collaborators back them up on every detrimental vote.

Residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a summer packed with free, family-friendly activities on high streets across Buckinghamshire, with 10 towns and villages taking part throughout July, August and September.

The programme features a wide range of exciting events, delivered by local businesses and high street partners and supported by Retail Revival Ltd, that are designed to encourage families to explore, enjoy and support their local high streets.

From treasure trails and gardening activities to arts and crafts workshops, live entertainment, sports sessions and community celebrations, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The programme showcases Buckinghamshire's vibrant independent businesses while creating memorable experiences for residents, visitors and local communities.

Whether you're looking for a fun day out with the family, an opportunity to discover hidden gems on your doorstep, or a chance to connect with your local community, this summer programme offers plenty of reasons to visit and support Buckinghamshire's high streets.

Highlights include:

Princes Risborough - Lights, Camera, Action! - 25 July to 15 August – Explore Princes Risborough this summer as you search for clapperboards hidden in shop windows across the town. Complete the trail and you’ll be rewarded with a golden ticket to a community cinema screening at the Wades Centre.
Gerrards Cross Dig It! - Saturday 1 August – The high street Flower Trail launches with a special Dig It! Gardening Day, packed with hands-on activities for children and families. Throughout August, visitors can then explore the high street to find hand-painted flowers displayed in local businesses, learn about each variety and complete the trail to receive a gardening-themed goody bag.
Aylesbury Canine Capers - Saturday 1 August – Aylesbury town centre will be hosting Canine Capers, a fun, dog-themed trail for all ages. During August, explore participating shop windows to discover different dog breeds. Complete the trail to receive a free goody bag. Look out for special selfie props located around the town centre. Strike a pose, share your photo and enter a competition for a chance to win a fantastic prize.
Happy Haddenham - Saturday 1 August – The Happy Haddenham Trail launches with free family activities, including a balloon artist, face painting and a costumed character. Throughout August, visitors can follow the trail to find 12 uplifting quotes hidden around the village and unlock special prizes in participating shops.
Winslow - Paws in the Park fete - Sunday 2 August – Enjoy a fun-filled community fete featuring a dog agility demonstration, dog splash zone, stalls, games, live music and food. Visitors can also meet local dog-related businesses and organisations, including medical detection dogs, pet portrait artists, dog walkers, groomers and pet suppliers.
High Wycombe: Bears on Chairs - 6 to 16 August – The Bears on Chairs trail launches on 6 August (11am to 4pm) with a free family fun day featuring arts and crafts, face painting, live buskers and a giant teddy bear character. Celebrating High Wycombe’s furniture-making heritage, the Bears on Chairs trail continues until 16 August.
Chesham Explorer's Day - Saturday 22 August – Featuring free family activities including jewellery making, pottery painting, face painting, badge making and a football competition.
Discover Buckingham - Saturday 5 September – Celebrate Buckingham’s thriving independent business community at this lively Open Day, featuring 30 participating businesses. Visitors can enjoy exclusive discounts, free workshops, live music and a variety of fringe activities throughout the town. With attractions ranging from a market square demonstration kitchen and a children’s entertainment garden to tarot card readings and much more, there’s something to entertain visitors of all ages.
Additional activities will take place in Wendover and Chalfont St Peter, with trails, fringe events, workshops and special offers encouraging visitors to discover what their local high streets have to offer.

When councils are well run, residents benefit. Thanks to Buckinghamshire Conservatives taking difficult decisions, focusing on value for money when delivering services, Buckinghamshire Council has delivered a strong, positive financial end of year budget position so we can continue to invest in:

An OurChesham follower wrote…Chesham Town Council put charges up 27% this year and apparently reduced the grass cutting by 27% too. At this rate, we’ll soon be advertising luxury meadow views instead of verges! 🌱

Well... they didn’t just reduce the grass cutting they cancelled it when the Lib Dem town councillors voted to scrap the devolved services contract. Bucks Council has a huge landscape to manage and aim to cut the main highways verges twice a year. Under the Conservative leadership at the town hall we hired a progressive parks manager who increased the cutting regime everywhere across Chesham to 7 times a year. He created local jobs, actively managed numerous wildflower verges to enhance nature spots across Chesham and won contracts with other parishes that funded the team, their work and new projects. Now we have utter chaos, no ambition, huge council tax increases and no pride of place in our town under the Lib Dems!!! 😥😥

Today marks the start of Volunteers' Week. Thousands of individuals and groups make an invaluable contribution to our communities right across Buckinghamshire. Volunteering not only benefits those who receive support, it is also incredibly rewarding to those who volunteer. It can help them to build new friendships, increase confidence, develop skills, and give them a strong sense of purpose and achievement. For many people, volunteering is also a wonderful way to stay active, connected, and engaged with the community. Thank you to everyone who volunteers!!
