Well it’s that time of year!
A time where we reflect on the year passed and look forward to the year ahead.

Dunoon Coastguard Rescue Team have attended over 60 emergency callouts this year and as a group of dedicated volunteers, we remain on call 365 days a year to play our part in keeping the community safe.

Normally, we thank those who support us - our families, our full time officers, our partner emergency services. This year is no different:
We are very lucky to be surrounded by professionals with whom we each benefit from their knowledge, wisdom, support and experience.

This year - (without having consulted the team!) - our end of year post will call out some very special people.

Our Team!

Volunteering to be on call 24/7 is a huge commitment, and many of the team have been doing this for decades.

Responding when you have family commitments or daily struggles or when life gets in the way can be difficult.

Every single member of the team remains committed to the team, because of how supportive we are to each other.
And it shows. ❤️.
Well done, all. Thank you each for continuing care love and support.

2025!
Done.

If we have helped you, your family, your community, we are glad to have been there when you needed it.

If we have helped raise awareness on the risks associated with water safety, we thank you for helping us spread that message!

Here are a selection of photos from a year which has seen us making a difference.
(Possibly one from the archives too!)

🌬️ West Coast Weather Warning 🌊

Followers, please take extra care in today’s severe winds across the west of Scotland.

⚠️ If you spot anything dangerous, call 999 immediately. But remember:

📸 That perfect photo,
⚓ Securing a boat,
🏃‍♂️ Chasing adrenaline…

None of these are worth your life.

Our Dunoon Coastguard Rescue Team volunteers are on call 24/7 - even in weather like this.

🚨 In a coastal, cliff or beach emergency: Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Stay safe.

Today is Emergency Services Day, a special opportunity to honour all those who work tirelessly to care for us and protect our safety.

As one of the UK’s emergency services, HM Coastguard stands ready round the clock to help anyone in difficulty at sea or on the coast.

While our staff in operations rooms answer 999 calls and coordinate the response to a variety of incidents, we have our helicopter crews in the sky and our coastguard rescue officers on the ground, rescuing people and saving lives.

We are grateful for everyone in the emergency services and can never thank you enough for your service 💙

Our training last night with our friends at KAMES Coastguard Rescue Team.

Looking at some more advanced airway management than ever before, we were also further trained in dealing with catastrophic bleeding, from an evidence led perspective.

Thanks to all involved.

HM Coastguard is a government department, and what is called a “Category 1 responder”.
If you call 999 you can ask for coastguard, and you will be put through to a full time coastguard control room.
The coastguard rescue service is managed by full time staff.
The coastguard rescue officers, such as those in the Dunoon Coastguard, are each volunteers.
Regardless of position throughout HM Coastguard, individuals can call on the support of the Coastguard Association, in their time of need, whatever that may be.

Today, three of our team completed the Coastguard Association 5k, to help raise money and awareness on behalf of the Coastguard Association.
Here are some photos of Anders, Avril and Cameron on their 5k, with the help of Bjørn the dog.

Well done to all!

King’s Coronation Medal Presentation.

Last night, personnel from across Area 4 West were presented with the King’s Coronation Medal which was presented to all personnel who had achieved 5 years service as at 6th May 2023.

The ceremony was led by Divisional Commander Sue Todd & Area Commander Robbie Robertson and saw all personnel receiving the medal from The Lord Lieutenant for Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Colonel Peter McCarthy.

One of the benefits of such a presentation is being able to meet up with colleagues from across the area.
Last night was no exception, and our flank teams reminded us that we operate in a volunteer community made up of some incredible individuals, managed by a passionate, professional and committed full time management team.

We were particularly touched by the poignant presentation of a posthumous medal to the Rothesay Team.
