St Margaret's Adoption Society

St Margaret's Adoption Society We are a Voluntary Adoption Agency based in Glasgow. Unfortunately, for some children this cannot be provided within their birth family.

St Margaret’s Children and Family Care Society is a registered Charity and Voluntary Adoption Agency in Scotland. The organisation was initially founded in 1955, meaning that we have almost 60 years’ experience of providing high quality adoption services for children and their families. We strongly believe that every child has the right to grow up in a safe, loving and secure family environment. O

ur primary role at St Margarets is to recruit Prospective Adopters for children who are no longer able to live within their birth family. Adoption is a very rewarding but also life-changing decision, for yourself, for the children and also for your wider family. We are committed to delivering a high quality and personalised service to take you through each and every step of your adoption journey. We provide many services in relation to adoption, including the services for those interested in adoption, on-going support and training for adoptive families, as well as services for adopted adults and services for birth parents. We understand that you will have many questions. Whether you are thinking of adoption, have already adopted or have been adopted yourself, we hope that you will find some helpful information on our website. Should you have any further questions in relation to adoption please feel free to contact one of our Social Workers who will be happy to have an informal discussion or answer any questions you may have.

Ordinary People Needed for an Extraordinary Journey

With over 70 children currently waiting for adoption in Scotland, and 1,300 nationwide, our search for adoptive parents is urgent. These children represent a beautiful mix of ages (from birth to 10 years old), ethnicities, religions, and needs. Many are brothers and sisters who need to stay together in groups of 2, 3, or 4.

We welcome applicants from all walks of life. We aren't looking for perfect wealth or property ownership - we are looking for heart. If you can provide a stable home, are resilient, and are ready to work alongside us and accept support when needed, you can change a child's life.

We have spaces available at our Preparation Groups in August.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Annual Gathering this year. It was lovely to see so many of our families and volunteers come together to celebrate adoption. 💕

With the sun shining we attended Mass followed by a BBQ in the garden. The children’s snack table was a big hit, as well as the face painter and magician 🪄

We would like to extend a huge Thank You to everyone who helped to make this such a special day!

From all of the team at St Margaret’s 🥰

A message of care and support to our families 💜

Many of you may have seen recent media coverage relating to the tragic death of baby Preston Davey. We are deeply aware that this news is distressing and may have stirred strong emotions including shock, sadness, anger, fear, or memories of painful experiences from your own lives or journeys to family life.

At the heart of this case is the loss of a child’s life. We hold Preston in our prayers, and we grieve for him and for all those who loved him. No words can lessen the horror of what has happened.

We also recognise that for some families, particularly those who have experienced trauma, loss, abuse, or involvement with care systems, media reporting like this can feel overwhelming or re‑triggering. It is completely understandable if you are finding this difficult to process, or if it has unsettled your sense of safety or trust.

As a Catholic adoption agency, our work is rooted in the belief that every child is precious, deserving of love, protection, and dignity. Adoption exists first and foremost as a safeguarding response, to offer children who cannot remain with their birth families the chance of safety, permanence, and care. When that trust is broken in such a devastating way, it impacts not only those directly involved but the wider community of families and professionals.

While independent reviews are underway to understand what went wrong in this case, we want to be clear about what matters most right now:

this tragedy is not the fault of children, families, or communities

one horrific case must never define or diminish the many families
who provide safe, loving homes

your feelings and responses matter, whatever they may be

We remain committed to the highest standards of safeguarding and to learning honestly and carefully whenever harm occurs, while continuing to support families with compassion rather than judgement.

If this coverage has affected you, you do not need to carry it alone. Our team is here to listen, to offer space for conversation, and to support you in whatever way feels helpful — whether that is practical support, emotional support, or simply being heard.

Please reach out to your social worker or to the agency if you would like to talk.

We hold little Preston, his family and all our families close in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

We held another busy and informative peer support where adopters and prospective adopters were able to come together and reflect on the importance of on-going connections with birth families and foster carers.

We would like to extend our thanks to our experienced adopter who came along and spoke openly and honestly regarding her own adoption experience.

“Absolutely fantastic – thank you so much”
“Really well paced, informative and really honest”
“Very insightful and encouraging”

At St Margarets we truly appreciate the importance of post adoption support and are committed to support our families throughout their adoption journey.
