Refugee Week, 15-21 June 2026, is an international festival of arts, cultural and educational events celebrating the contributions and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. It aims to encourage a better understanding between communities, and sharing stories can help build empathy and awareness.

To mark Refugee Week, BFI and Counterpoints Arts have compiled a collection of films that explore refugee experiences across continents and generations.
From First World War newsreels to 21st Century online video, these works bear witness to displacement across the globe.

You can view the BFI Replay Refugee Week collection here: https://replay.bfi.org.uk/collection/389

All this week (8–12 June) we’ve been celebrating Pyjamarama 🎉 — the annual event that invites children to come along in their favourite pyjamas and enjoy sessions full of stories and reading fun.
This year, all week our Storytots sessions had a cosy makeover!
Our lovely library staff joined in the spirit by wearing their favourite PJs sharing bedtime-themed stories and leading fun, creative crafts.
It’s been a wonderful week of imagination, laughter, and a shared love of reading 💛

Join us for a series of interactive workshops exploring the 1976 drought through newspapers and archival materials.
We’ll look at our relationship with water, water insecurity, and what we can learn from the past.
Week 1: Discover resources from our local history collections and learn how they can support your own research projects.

Week 2: Explore creative ways to present and share your research.

The sessions are led by Nathalie Holloway, a doctoral researcher at the Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarships Centre for Water Cultures (University of Hull). Her work combines history and creativity to raise awareness about drought and water use in the UK.

Please note: This is a two-part workshop. To attend, you’ll need to book for both sessions on 20th and 27th June at tinyurl.com/water1976

✨ Congratulations to this year’s winners of the Women’s Prize for Fiction & Non-Fiction! ✨
Last night’s ceremony celebrated excellence, originality, and powerful storytelling from women writers across the globe.
🏆Non-Fiction Winner
Lyse Doucet’s debut The Finest Hotel in Kabul: A People’s History of Afghanistan offers a vividly told modern history through the lives of those connected to Kabul’s Inter-Continental Hotel. It’s a compelling and deeply human account of resilience through decades of change.
🏆 Fiction Winner
In The Correspondent by Virginia Evans, readers are drawn into an uplifting and moving story told through letters to friends, family, and authors. Following 73-year-old Sybil Van Antwerp, this beautifully written novel explores youth, ageing, regret, and the unexpected opportunities life can bring.
Every title on this year’s shortlist was truly outstanding!
