Veterans In Communities Veterans In Communities (VIC) is an ex-services charity based in East Lancashire. VIC supports ex-se Welcome to the Veterans In Communities group.

VIC was established in 2012 to support those who have served in the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Emergency services and their families. VIC offers a range of activities and a means to share our experiences with others that may be experiencing some difficulties in settling down into civilian life or have made the adjustment and want to help who haven’t yet. This page allows our

members to get our latest news. Feel free to let ‘us’ know what’s happening in your area, upload your pictures and share your views. Though your views are important, please do not post unsuitable content and images, links that are non-specific to VIC. Any information deemed unsuitable to the page will be removed by admin. 🇨🇮 A huge thanks to all those who wished me luck for the first time carrying the RBL national standard at Islandbridge this weekend. 🇨🇮

🌳 The Irish National War Memorial Gardens are dedicated to the memory of the 49,400 Irish soldiers who died in the First World War. The name of every single soldier in contained in the Harry Clark manuscripts housed in the granite bookrooms.

🥰 Being trusted to carry the RBL national standard in such a beautiful and thought provoking place was such an honour 🥰

And yesterday I attended the National Day of Commemoration held at Kilmainham hospital, formerly used as a home for retired soldiers. President Catherine Connolly laid a wreath in honour of all Irish men and women who died in past wars or on service with the UN and other organisations in the service of peace.

🇮🇪🎖️ VIC Administrator Amy Thompson Arrives in Dublin to Carry the National Standard 🎖️🇮🇪

Today, Veterans In Communities is incredibly proud to see our very own Amy Thompson in Dublin, Ireland, where she has the honour of carrying the National Standard for the Royal British Legion at the RBL Ireland Annual Somme Ceremony of Remembrance and Wreath Laying at the Irish National War Memorial, Islandbridge.

This poignant and significant event commemorates the Irish War Dead, particularly those who gave their lives in the World Wars. The ceremony brings together people from all communities and backgrounds and includes a parade, an ecumenical service of remembrance, and the laying of wreaths by governmental, civic and veterans' representatives.

Amy's attendance is yet another remarkable achievement in what has been an outstanding journey as an RBL Standard Bearer. Having recently achieved third place at the Royal British Legion National Conference, this latest honour of carrying the National Standard is a fitting recognition of her dedication, professionalism and commitment to remembrance.

We are immensely proud of everything Amy continues to accomplish. Representing veterans and the Royal British Legion on such an important occasion is a true testament to her hard work and dedication.

We want to wish Amy the very best for today's ceremony. We're absolutely gutted that we can't be there to support her in person, but we'll be cheering her on from afar and can't wait to see the photographs and footage from what promises to be a deeply moving and memorable day.

VIC members enjoyed a steady walk around Jumbles Country Park on Thursday 09/07/2026. We are planning walks every Thursday so if you would like to join us watch out for the weekly post. Thursday 16th we will be doing another walk to Hollingworth Lakes. Transport from VIC will leaving at 10 am and a cost of £3 per person to cover the cost of parking and fuel. Are you passionate about supporting veterans, Armed Forces families and the wider Armed Forces community?

Veterans in Communities are recruiting a VALOUR Project Coordinator to support delivery of the VALOUR programme.

This role will provide person-centred support to veterans and their families, ensuring they can access the right services at the right time.

Working as part of a coordinated regional network, you will deliver support through a structured Pathways Coordination approach, including triage, assessment, case management and referral. You will play a key role in ensuring individuals receive consistent, joined-up support in line with the VALOUR “No Wrong Front Door” model.

The postholder will contribute to training, mentoring and supervision of staff and volunteers including documented line management and support to staff and core volunteers on a regular basis.

📍 Location: Lancashire (With remote and outreach working across Lancashire and Cumbria as required)
🕒 Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours per week
💷 Salary: £28,000
📅 Contract: Fixed-term to June 2029

I would like to say how very much I appreciated the small gathering last Tuesday to send me on my way into retirement.

My thanks go to Amanda and Amy, no doubt the instigators behind it, taking the time to organise and put on a small buffet for guests whilst dealing with what is probably the most important time for VIC in its existence.

I would also like to sincerely thank Bob Elliott , Darren Horsnell, Graham Limb and Catherine Smyth Media, all of who have contributed to the success of the organisation, ably supported by the Chairman Ronnie Barker and the board of trustees, taking an idea Bob had going on 15 years ago, and running with it, from the humble beginnings in the old electric showroom in Bacup town centre.

I will not forget the day Bob visited me at home after what had been one of the worse periods of my life and welcomed me into the VIC family.

Since then, I have gone on to meet and make so many new friends, far to many to mention here, with some surprising me last Tuesday at the centre.

It would be impossible for me to mention everyone, but you all know who you are.

Finally, I'd like to say that I am sure that VIC is in very safe hands and I have no doubt whatsoever the future is looking bright!

Morning all. Something different for a change. Many of you have said there is always something in a ppainting that you would change or correct so on July 25th we are having a fix it day instead of a Bob Ross class, you bring a painting in that you have wanted to change or add and we fix it. Also on the same day we will be doing a full lesson on Trees only. Using recycled canvases we will be painting all different types of tress and bushes. There will be a cost of £20 per person to cover the cost of paint, tea and coffee but please bring a packed lunch. Start time will be 1030 and we will finish at 1400hrs. Please l;et me know if you wish to attend as numbers will be limited. Many Thanks

VIC are going on a bimble walk on Thursday 9th July at 10am. We will be leaving in the van and should be back around 12. We will be walking around Jumbles Country Park Café, its just over a mile round and on fairly flat ground. If you would like to join us please be at VIC before 10am and please make sure you check the weather the day before so you can wear the correct clothing, foot ware and drinks.
