This Thursday, in Horncastle Market, we will be launching an exciting Age-friendly project in Horncastle!

Working in partnership with Horncastle Town Council, the project aims to build on Horncastle’s existing age-friendly qualities by developing an Age-Friendly Business Award scheme.

Alongside the business award scheme, a number of other initiatives will be developed, which could be anything from developing chatty cafés, increasing the availability of seating in public spaces and within businesses and supporting residents to become Ageing Well Ambassadors.

The launch will be on Thursday, October 1 – coinciding with International Day for Older People – at Horncastle market.

Our Ageing Well Communities Officer will also be at Horncastle Library with Shine from 10am-2pm.

Come along and share your views, get involved and find out more about supporting Horncastle to be officially recognised as an Age-friendly town!

🏡 A housing success story that changed a life

Sometimes, finding the right home can make all the difference.
After approaching our Homeless Service, an older resident was identified as living in accommodation that no longer met their needs due to mobility difficulties. Through determination, partnership working and support from a range of organisations, we helped secure a move to specialist accommodation for older people that better suits their needs.

The move has provided a safer, more accessible home, reduced the risk of falls, and enabled the resident to remain close to their family support network.

This successful outcome shows the value of working together to help residents access the right housing at the right time, improving independence, wellbeing and quality of life. 💙

East Lindsey District Council is launching a new funding programme to offer grants to visitor economy businesses based in the Lincolnshire Wolds and the surrounding area.

Following a decision made at the authority’s executive board to allocate £400,000 from the East Lindsey Investment Fund to the scheme, eligible businesses are now being encouraged to apply for grants.

The Council created the Discover the Wolds Business Growth Programme after identifying untapped potential within the Wolds visitor economy, particularly around facilitating initiatives which enhance the visitor experience and attract sustainable growth-focused tourism.

The programme is particularly focused on strengthening the area’s appeal to visitors seeking distinctive and authentic experiences – including those attracted by the Wolds’ landscapes, heritage, walking and cycling and rural character.

Councillor Craig Leyland, Leader of East Lindsey District Council, said: “The Wolds and the surrounding area are one of the jewels in the crown of East Lindsey.

“We know that there is an opportunity for support in that particular area of the district to encourage visitors to spend more time experiencing what we have to offer and, in turn, driving economic growth.

“The East Lindsey Investment Fund priorities specifically focus on initiatives which support tourism and the visitor economy along with business support and enabling growth, so this programme aims to meet several of those objectives.

“I hope that businesses do come forward and apply – whether you’re looking to deliver a large capital project or in need of some support with a revenue grant, it’s a great opportunity not to be missed.”

A long-awaited play area has officially been opened, alongside a digital hub and community café at Mareham le Fen Community Centre.

Cllr Craig Leyland, Leader of East Lindsey District Council, officially opened the play area on Saturday 26 September. The play area was made possible thanks to £24,999 from East Lindsey District Council via the ELIF GRASSroots Grants Scheme, administered by Lincolnshire Community Foundation.

The idea for a play area came following a request from a parent in 2017 as families were having to travel outside of the village to enjoy outdoor space. At the time, The Trustees behind the development of the new community centre offered their support for the play area and a sub-committee of their charity was formed.

The play area was finally installed earlier this summer and other contributions came from Gleeson Homes, Co-op community Champions, Horncastle Lions and Coningsby Lions.

The Digital Hub and Community Café, based at the community centre, has been supported by £7,987 from the UKSPF GRASSroots Grant Scheme for the purchase of equipment and furniture, staffing and publicity support. There was £2,500 match funding and equipment has also been supported by Action Awareness.

The hub is open every weekday morning for people to drop by, use the computers and equipment and for people to socialise.

The opening celebration was attended by residents and those involved in both projects who have worked tirelessly for the benefit of the community 💛

🏡 Where should you keep your food waste caddy?

The best place is somewhere convenient, such as on your kitchen worktop, under the sink or wherever you normally prepare food. Keeping it close by makes it quick and easy to scrape plates, peel vegetables and dispose of food scraps as you go.

Your small indoor caddy is designed for everyday use, helping you collect food waste before emptying it into your outdoor food waste caddy ready for collection.

Making it part of your daily routine is the easiest way to build a new habit — and you'll soon find that separating your food waste becomes second nature.
