Greens came close second in by election!

A by-election was held for the Norfolk County Council Old Catton division on Thursday 16 July. Our Green Party candidate, Phoebe Connell, came a very
close second with just 52 votes behind Antony Little, the new Conservative Councillor for the division.

Thank you to all who worked so hard on the campaign from both Norwich Green Party and Broadland Green Party

Polling day for the Old Catton County Council by-election is Thursday 16 July.

Some great feedback from residents whilst we've been doing the rounds to find out what people are concerned about. A vote for Phoebe on 16 July is a vote for hope.

Local resident Phoebe Connell is just 1% behind Reform in the Old Catton by-election. Polling day is Thursday 16th July.

Don't waste your vote on the Conservatives, Labour or Lib Dems who are now out of the race.

Thank you to Norfolk Fire & Rescue and everyone who responded to yesterday's major wildfire near Swanton Abbott, alongside several other fires across the county. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do to keep our communities safe.

As our climate warms, firefighters are increasingly being sent to tackle larger and more dangerous wildfires. Yet Reform and the Conservatives want to scrap net zero policies while pushing for more oil and gas extraction, despite clean energy being cheaper, cleaner and key to reducing both emissions and energy bills.

We need to support our emergency services, adapt to the climate change already locked in, and tackle its root cause by rapidly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Please follow Norfolk Fire & Rescue's advice during this hot, dry weather, and report any fires immediately by calling 999.

💚✊

🔥 Yesterday we attended several large rural fires, the largest incident being near Swanton Abbott. This was a wildfire - it spread quickly and involved outbuildings as well as 50 hectares of fields.
🚒 Appliances from Aylsham, North Walsham, Stalham, Mundesley, Wroxham, Earlham, Sheringham, Cromer, Gorleston, Sprowston, Acle, Long Stratton, Sandringham and Wymondham attended this incident, along with Tactical Response vehicles from Sandringham, Diss, Gorleston, Cromer, Wroxham, North Walsham and Reepham, plus two water carriers from Hethersett and one from Fakenham. We also used a drone to track fire spread and farm machinery was used to create a fire break to prevent further spread.

This incident followed other fires in the open yesterday afternoon including at Crimplesham, Aylmerton and Bintree.

These incidents highlight the importance of reporting any fire in quickly.
📢 Call 999 if you see a fire in the open.
📱 Downloading what3words now means that it is easier for us to find rural fires speedily

📹 Our control room operators may ask you to use GoodSam if it is safe for you to do so. They will send you a link to share your camera so we can view the incident live from your phone, this helps us to ensure we have the right resources allocated to the incident.

Please stay well clear of fires in the open as they can spread quickly and can be unpredictable. Keeping clear allows our crews to tackle them safely.

Field and grass fires can quickly spread, so please stay well clear of the area and do not stop to take photographs which may put you in danger.
