Today marks the September Equinox! It's the point where day and night are equal in length, and autumn begins🍂

Thank you to our staff and the local community who have worked incredibly hard to care for West Ham Park through the exceptionally hot summer we've just had, helping wildlife, habitats and visitors continue to thrive.

As we enter a new season and turn a new, orange, leaf, let's all continue to care for our wonderful Park 👏

This week was Recycle Week, and our Learning Team have been turning waste into wonder, ready for October learning sessions and our Spooky Autumn Trail!🐌

From paper pumpkins to tinsel-turned-dandelions, the team have been getting creative in the name of minimising waste and maximising fun for the local children👏

Wonder Women is an inspiring project run by Tindersticks, encouraging women into nature, learning new skills, and providing a safe, calming and educational space for women from vulnerable groups.

This project in West Ham Park was made possible through the City of London Corporation: City View Enjoying Green Spaces Grant.

It's International Bat Night!🦇

As night draws in, Bats can be seen flying across West Ham Park as they start to feed - have you seen any this summer?

They're very quick, so you can also use a detector to hear their echolocation. The device in this photo picks up the high-frequency echolocation calls that bats use to navigate and hunt, sounds that are usually beyond the range of human hearing.

Long before the Park opened to the public in 1874, it was the home of Dr John Fothergill's world-famous botanical garden 🪻

During the 18th century, rare plants from around the globe were cultivated here, placing what we now know as West Ham Park at the heart of scientific discovery and horticultural innovation.

More than 250 years later, traces of that extraordinary legacy can still be found throughout the Park.

You'll find stories of the Park's history as you embark on our walking trail, and as the park is cared for, our team occasionally uncovers features from earlier periods, helping us piece together the many layers of West Ham Park's past.

Come along to a free Bat Walk at West Ham Park!

As the sun sets, explore the park at night and learn more about these incredible nocturnal mammals on a guided evening walk with the Friends of West Ham Park.

📅 Friday 28 August
⏰ 8.15pm to 9.30pm
📍 Meet at the Park Office (opposite the playground), What3Words: lions.plus.quick

Please arrive promptly on time - the park gates are closed from 8.30pm. There will be no exit until the walk finishes at around 9.30pm. Exit will be via Portway Gate only.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times
🔦 Please do not bring torches or use artificial lighting during the walk

This event is free and does not require a booking.
