Help us keep you, other visitors and Hampstead Heath safe during this heatwave.

💧 Stay hydrated
🏊‍♂️ Do not swim in wildlife ponds. Only swim in our three designated swimming ponds or Lido.
🔥 Do not light any fires or BBQs - pack a picnic instead
🗑️ Use our bins or take your litter home; it is hazardous to wildlife and increases wildfire risk
🌳 Respect the environment and our staff. Abuse will not be tolerated. Breaches of our byelaws are subject to enforcement action.

Together, we can keep our green spaces welcoming for everyone.

If you're planning a visit this week, a few simple actions can help protect these special places and make sure everyone can enjoy them safely.

💧 Bring plenty of water
🥪 Choose a picnic over a BBQ
🗑️ Take litter home if bins are full
🏊 Swim only in safe, lifeguarded water

If you're visiting the Heath tomorrow (Wednesday 12 August), please be aware that during the partial solar eclipse light levels will be similar to dusk, and temperatures will dip.

During this time, it is essential that all visitors remain safe and respectful. Please:

📣Take your litter home or put it in a bin
🔥Do not light fires or BBQ's
🚬Ensure ci******es are extinguished properly
🪴Listen to and respect our staff, and
🦋Give wildlife plenty of space.

We'd like to remind visitors and swimmers to not look directly at the Sun. If you wish to observe the eclipse, only do so using certified solar viewing equipment.

For our swimmers, please read the safety information below from our Lifeguards:

☀️Never look directly at the sun from the pool or open water without certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses
☀️Do not try to view the eclipse via its reflection in the swimming pool or open water, as the concentrated reflection can damage your eyes
☀️Swimming goggles do not protect your eyes from solar damage
☀️If you want to observe the eclipse, leave the water and use certified eclipse glasses

Please note the eclipse will not cause strange water currents or sudden pitch darkness - normal visibility will remain.

🚨No Swimming in Non-Designated Ponds 🚨

There are three designated swimming ponds on Hampstead Heath: the Men's Pond, Ladies' Pond, and the Mixed Pond. There is also the Lido.

During this heatwave, please do not swim in the Model Boating Pond, wildlife ponds and other non-designated swimming ponds. These are essential habitats for wildlife, and swimming in these ponds causes disturbance and stress to the animals and environment.

Non-designated swimming ponds are also not safe to swim in; they are not lifeguarded, may have dangerous objects in them, and are not tested for disease. They often contain harmful bacteria that can make humans and pets unwell.

Please keep dogs under close control around wildlife ponds, and do not let them swim in non-designated dog swimming areas.

If you see someone, or their dog, swimming in a non-designated area, please call our Constabulary on 020 8340 5260.

Amber Heat Health Alert & Increased Wildfire Risk 🚨

The Met Office has issued another Amber Heat Health Alert, starting tomorrow morning, 29 July. Remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and hats, and schedule activities for cooler times of day. For more information, please visit gov.uk/UKHSA/beat-the-heat.

The hot and dry conditions caused by this year's weather means even a small spark can quickly start a serious fire. This photo was taken of one of the many fires our team have had to put out this summer so far. Please help protect the Heath by:

🔥 Not lighting BBQs or campfires
🚭 Disposing of ci******es safely
🗑️ Taking litter home, especially glass bottles

Report any signs of fire immediately by calling 999 and our Constabulary on 020 8340 5260.
