‘By the time someone reaches 16, the floodgates of the internet open up…’ 📱

As discussions continue around future social media restrictions, we must ensure 16- and 17-year-olds are not left behind.

Today, the BBFC and members of our Safer Screens Forum - including the NSPCC, Barnardo's and the Molly Rose Foundation - have published a joint statement urging the Government to deliver comprehensive, age-appropriate protection for children of all ages.

Turning 16 should not mean facing a dangerous 'cliff edge' where teenagers are exposed overnight to adult content.

81% of parents of 15–17-year-olds agree, telling us they would feel more comfortable if social media content did not exceed what is allowed in a 15-rated film.
