"Asking for help or support can almost be seen as something that's embarrassing. There might be shame or guilt associated with that. And so a lot of the time people don't identify themselves as carers."

Thank you to Dr Punam and BBC Morning Live for helping to spread awareness of what it means to be a carer, and the barriers people face in accessing support, particularly for those from ethnic minority communities.

"In these communities, it's kind of a given. We live generationally. We don't actually look at caring as being a task or a job. This is expected of you."

Thank you to Ann, for sharing her lovely poem about kindness and the important of being kind to ourselves, as part of a carer's creating writing workshop in Eccles 💙

Ann said, "It is unlikely that I would have shared this experience in a larger group. It demonstrated how a small group with kind facilitators can work, with getting to know each other, and finding out how each other ‘tick’.

I made a day of it at Eccles, getting there early, shopping at the Asian Market and having lunch in a cafe. It is the first time I have actually gone out and done anything for myself since September 2025 - other than going to hospital (which doesn’t count).

I had a really lovely time. As a carer I don’t often have such luxury. Thank you so much Julian and Joe [from Gaddum] for listening to me, brewing up for me and giving me mental stimulation and enjoyment."

Yesterday was our staff away day - and what a day it was! 🤩

It was a powerful reminder of what makes Gaddum special: the breadth of what we do, the strength of our culture, and the shared commitment to the people and communities we exist to serve.

The day also highlighted the incredible amount of expertise, care and passion across our organisation. We listened to presentations from each team, reflecting on highlights, challenges and looking ahead to the future.

We couldn't be prouder.

Here's to you, Team Gaddum! 🌟
