Specially trained officers have been deployed around the Etihad Campus today ahead of the Take That concerts this weekend.

These officers work alongside staff and security teams, sharing information when necessary to help keep everyone safe. We also speak to members of the public, who act as extra ๐Ÿ‘€ eyes and ๐Ÿ‘‚ ears to help spot anything that doesnโ€™t feel right.

Our newest recruits to our network of vigilance are some very dedicated fans, who have set up camp two days ahead of the event!

Domestic Abuse Awareness During Football Tournaments
Due to the Football World Cup starting, DI Gibb was invited to speak as the City of Manchester lead for Domestic Abuse.
Itโ€™s important to highlight that, sadly, incidents of domestic abuse and violence increase during major football tournaments:

26% increase when a national team plays
38% increase if the team loses
11% increase the following day, regardless of the result

These figures serve as a reminder for us all to remain vigilant and supportive of those who may be affected.

| A 14-year-old girl has been charged in connection with an attack at a school in North Manchester on Tuesday 9 June 2026.

Following authorisation from the Crown Prosecution Service, the girl was charged this evening (Thursday 11 June) with:
- Three charges of attempted murder
- Two charges of possessing a bladed article on school premises

She will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow (Friday 12 June).

Det Chief Supt Jonathan Chadwick, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North West, said: โ€œThese are extremely serious charges against a young girl and, working closely with Greater Manchester Police, we continue to support the victims and their families and offer support to the wider school community, who have been deeply affected by what happened.

โ€œAlthough charges have now been secured, our investigation is still ongoing, and we continue to work with local policing colleagues in the Blackley area.โ€

On Tuesday 9 June police were called to a school on Plant Hill Road, Blackley, to reports of a stabbing.

Due to circumstances surrounding the incident, the investigation was passed to Counter Terrorism Policing North West, although at this time, it has not been declared as a terrorist incident.

| Statement on behalf of CTPNW

Following an incident at a school in North Manchester earlier this week, we can confirm that Counter Terrorism Policing are now leading the investigation.

Searches relating to the investigation remain ongoing and counter terrorism detectives are keeping an open mind to the motivation of the attack.

A 14-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and detained under the Mental Health Act. Following an assessment by health professionals she was released to police custody.

The three people who were injured have all been released from hospital and thankfully suffered no serious injuries.

At this time, it has not been declared as a terrorist incident.

Chief Superintendent David Meeney, Commander for Manchester, said: โ€œOur local detectives have been investigating this incident at pace ever since we arrested a schoolgirl suspect on Tuesday morning. She remains in custody in Manchester.

โ€œThis has included ensuring the suspect is checked by health professionals to make an assessment while under the Mental Health Act, and to explore all available evidence to understand why this incident took place.

โ€œSince our last update, further information has come to light that we have made Counter Terrorism Policing North West aware of.

โ€œI know this update will only continue to make our local community concerned by Tuesdayโ€™s events.

โ€œThere is no information to indicate any further threat, and our local officers continue to be in the area. We are here to listen and to act, so please speak to our officers with any concerns.โ€

| An investigation is continuing after three people were injured at a school in north Manchester.

Officers were called to reports of a stabbing at a school on Plant Hill Road, Blackley yesterday (Tuesday 9 June 2026).

Staff were quick to detain a girl to ensure no further harm came to pupils or staff, and officers arrived shortly afterwards.

A 14-year-old who was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The three injured during the incident have all been released from hospital after being assessed.

As part of our investigation, we are also aware and are looking into social media posts in relation to this but would like to remind communities this is an ongoing live investigation.

City of Manchester North Chief Inspector Jon Shilvock said: โ€œOur investigation has continued at pace since yesterday morning. Our thoughts are with those that were injured and were caught up in the incident

โ€œAs our investigation progresses, we are aware that names relating to the incident are being circulated on social media which are unhelpful for the investigation. This is also causing concern with the victims and those that have been impacted therefore we would stress that people do not speculate regarding this incident.

โ€œOfficers will remain in and around the area to provide support to ensure staff, students and the wider community feel safe. If you have any concerns, please speak to our officers who are there to support you.โ€
