Stannington Library Stannington Library, a small but vibrant community library, run by volunteers.

STAND (Stannington & District Library group) was formed in 2013 after two public meetings that explored the issues raised by Sheffield City Council's announced withdrawal of support for Stannington Library


Since then, the group has been formalised and a committee has been formed with teams of volunteers recruited. The formal bid to take over management of Stannington Library was successful and n

ow the real work begins - running Stannington Library as a community facility for the benefit of the people of Stannington

Hey! Stannington Young Writers - it’s time for 500 Words 2026-27!

BBC 500 Words is the UK’s largest story-writing competition for 5–11 year-olds.
Entries open at 8am on Tuesday 29 September and close at 9pm on Friday 6 November 2026.

BBC 500 Words is open to children wherever they are and however they learn. Whether they’re in school, learning in hospital, or home educated, every child can have a go at writing their own story.

The competition is all about creativity, and spelling, punctuation and grammar aren’t marked so children can focus on their ideas and let their imaginations lead the way. 👌👊
