South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has become the first NHS Trust in the North East to achieve the RNIB Visibly Better Employer Standard.

The award recognises the Trust's commitment to creating an inclusive workplace and improving opportunities for blind and partially sighted colleagues.

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has launched research trials exploring whether a simple breath test could help detect gastrointestinal cancers earlier.

If successful, the approach could support faster diagnosis and improve outcomes for patients.

The award recognises its Learning Disability and Autism Awareness Education programme, which is helping ambulance clinicians deliver more personalised care.
