A book review from Joe -
Vicious. By V. E. Schwab

Are you a fan of young adult fiction and intense thrillers? If so, this book, and the sequel, are definitely ones to put on your reading list.

Following the principal characters, Victor, and Eli, Vicious tells the story of their quest to discover if extraordinary people real. Can people truly have super-powers? If so, how could this be possible. The pursuit of these answers will lead these two ambitious characters down an irreversible path of destruction, intense rivalry, and violent reprisal.

Every character in this story is fascinating, distinct, and well-realised, and the story does a great job of discussing issues such as human morality, religious belief, and overcoming past traumas.

What would people with super-powers really be like? Would they be heroes like in Marvel? Or psychopaths like in The Boys? V. E. Schwab offers quite a unique perspective on this discussion.

If you're interested in reading this book and Schwab's other works, we have copies available for borrowing here at Ware Library.

I can't recommend this one enough. For me, it was an easy 9/10.

A book review from Joe -
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by Mark Haddon

This book was very important to me growing up as a boy with Dyslexia and Asperger's Autism. It tells the story of Christopher, a fifteen-year-old boy who himself struggles with autism, and his quest to solve the mystery of the curious incident.

Unlike a lot of other works about autism that came before it, Haddon makes an effort to frame things more positively. Although autism can affect a person's social skills, this neuro-divergency is now commonly recognised as a sign of potential talents. Many people who are autistic have gone on to achieve fantastic things.

Adapted into a stage play for London theatres in 2012, this story is a heart-felt tale of self-discovery, problem solving, coming to terms with difficult things, and gaining self-confidence.

If you or someone you know is affected by autism, or other similar neuro-divergent conditions, I can't recommend this book highly enough. It is simply fantastic.
