Friday 11 September marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, together with colleagues from across the UK, will be observing a one-minute silence at 1.46pm, the exact time the first aircraft struck the North Tower (UK time). Flags will also be lowered to half-mast for the duration of the silence.
In total, 343 firefighters lost their lives while responding to the attacks on the World Trade Center.
This anniversary provides an important opportunity for our profession to reflect on the courage, commitment and selflessness demonstrated by firefighters on that day, and to honour the lasting legacy of those who did not return home.
