Gen2 Cumbria's leading training provider of apprenticeships, short courses & higher education programmes. Locations: Workington, Furness, Carlisle.

Gen2 helps people, organisations and economies develop their skills for growth. Gen2 was established in 2000 and specialises in the Engineering, Nuclear, and Manufacturing sectors. In May 2017 Gen2 joined City & Guilds. Gen2 currently operates from 5 training centres across Cumbria, has over 150 employees and continues to grow its geographic and product portfolio. The quality of teaching and learning is paramount, resulting in success rates typically 20% above the national average. We work with 300 national and international clients delivering training programmes from L2 traineeships to L6 degree apprenticeships. Gen2 has 1,450 Apprentices in learning including 300 HE students and delivers c.10,000 delegates days of short course training p/a.

This morning, Gen2 hosted a coffee morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support ☕💚

We’re delighted to share that, thanks to the generosity of everyone who donated, attended and supported the event, we raised an amazing £460.94!

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, brought along treats, enjoyed a cuppa and helped make the morning such a success.

Every donation helps Macmillan continue providing vital support to people living with cancer and their families.

🎓 Celebrating Dominic Sellars’ BEng achievement!

After returning to education at 28, Dominic has achieved a fantastic milestone, completing his BEng in Mechanical Engineering with Gen2 & University of Cumbria in January 2026.

Dominic first joined Gen2 to complete his HNC and HND in Mechanical Engineering, achieving a distinction in his HND. Building on his existing experience and practical knowledge, he then progressed to his BEng after being put forward by Gen2 for funding through the City & Guilds Charles Brook Bursary.

Since completing his degree, Dominic has progressed into a Mechanical Project Manager role at Amentum, applying the knowledge and skills gained through his studies to real-world engineering challenges.

His learning journey continues, as he is now working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status in Mechanical Engineering.

Dominic’s journey shows how returning to education and building on existing experience can open up new opportunities for career progression.

Congratulations, Dominic! We’re proud to have supported you throughout your journey and wish you every success in the future.

All 2026 applicants have been contacted by email with application instructions and information about their next steps.

Looking to start an apprenticeship in September 2027? Our new application portal will open on Wednesday 28 October 2026, so keep an eye on our social media channels for updates.

2026 Apprenticeship Application Portal CLOSING 📢

Thank you to everyone who has shown an interest in starting an apprenticeship with Gen2.

Our 2026 apprenticeship application portal is closing on Monday 19th October. If you're looking to start an apprenticeship in September 2027, our new application portal will open on Wednesday 28th October.

📢 Please note:

General Applications: If you submitted a general application during 2026, your application will not be carried forward to the new application cycle. You'll need to submit a new application through the 2027 portal once it opens.

Live Vacancy Applications: If you applied directly for a specific live vacancy with an employer, your application is still live and you will be contacted if we require anything further.

Our Step in2 and Bridging Programme learners recently welcomed Daniel Dumont from Ørsted to Gen2 for an insight into careers in the offshore energy sector.

Daniel shared his own career journey and spoke about the wide range of roles available within the industry, as well as the opportunities for progression.

Learners gained valuable insight into the skills, attitudes and experiences employers look for, alongside practical advice on building a successful career in the sector.

A fantastic opportunity for our learners to hear directly from an industry professional and discover the exciting career opportunities available across renewable and offshore energy.
