On May 6 and 7, the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate hosted over 100 nutrition officers at the TUC Conference Centre for the 2025 Nutrition Review Conference.

The theme was: *Free Primary Health Care — Nutrition, an Indispensable Factor.*

Officers reviewed nutrition programmes across the region, updated their knowledge on screening children admitted to health facilities to prevent hospital-acquired malnutrition, and discussed practical approaches to reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases.

As free primary health care rolls out nationally, Greater Accra is making sure nutrition is firmly in the frame.

The conference was supported by the Kokoplus Foundation and Amaati Food Company.

Ghana Health Service Assures Public of Enhanced Surveillance Against Hantavirus

Healthcare leaders, policymakers, development partners, and parents gathered at the Omanye Hall of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly today to officially launch Newborn Jaundice Awareness Month 2026, marking a renewed national commitment to protecting newborns from one of the most preventable causes of infant brain damage and death in Ghana.

The event was held under the theme "A National Call to Action: Improving Jaundice Care for Every Newborn Everywhere" and was jointly organised by the Pediatric Society of Ghana, Greater Accra Regional Chapter, and the Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital, under the auspices of the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate.

Representing the Regional Director, Dr. Robert Amesiya, Dr. Charlotte Cato, Deputy Director of Clinical Care at the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, chaired the occasion, reflecting the region's firm commitment to improving newborn health outcomes. Representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service Headquarters, and both the National and Greater Accra Executives of the Pediatric Society of Ghana also attended, giving the initiative a clear national character.

The programme included health education sessions on early detection and prevention, goodwill messages from stakeholders, drama performances, and interactive sessions with parents. A highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of the "Spot Early, Treat It Right" project, a public education initiative targeting caregivers and communities.

One message came through clearly throughout the launch: newborn jaundice is treatable when caught early, but delayed care continues to expose babies to the risk of brain damage, long-term disability, and death.

Parents and caregivers were urged to seek immediate medical attention when a newborn shows signs of yellowing of the eyes or skin, poor feeding, excessive sleepiness, fever, or unusual body stiffness.

Dr. Robert Amesiya, Ag. RDHS, set a clear tone at GOIL PLC’s maiden Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ) Week launch in Tema, stressing that a psychologically unsafe worker is an unsafe worker.

Speaking on the theme, "Promoting a Positive Psychosocial Working Environment" at the GOBitumen Terminal, before senior management, staff and stakeholders from Ghana's petroleum downstream sector, Dr. Amesiya called on GOIL PLC to treat workforce mental health as a core operational issue, not a background concern. "You cannot have a genuinely safe workplace if your people are psychologically unsafe," he said. "The two are inseparable."

He challenged the company to look beyond physical safety systems and examine whether workers feel safe speaking up, whether struggling employees have somewhere to turn, and whether the organisational culture genuinely values people.

Dr. Amesiya also signalled the readiness of the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate to partner with corporate organisations on workplace wellness, mental health first aid, and occupational health programmes.

The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate joined Hope for Future Generations (HFFG) on Monday, April 27, 2026, to commemorate World Malaria Day at Madina Zongo Junction in the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality.

Delivering the keynote address, the Ag. RDHS, Dr. Robert Amesiya, called on communities, partners, and the media to sustain the fight against malaria beyond the commemoration. "The tools exist. The knowledge is available. What we must not allow to run out is our will," he said.

Dr. Amesiya reaffirmed the Greater Accra Regional Health Service's commitment to the national malaria elimination agenda and urged every stakeholder to match that commitment with action.

The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate on Friday, 24th April 2026, marked World Malaria Day under the theme: "Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must."

Hosted at the Church of Pentecost, Dansoman District, the event brought together municipal leadership, health officials, sponsors, and community members united in the fight against malaria.

The keynote address by the Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. Robert Amesiya, reinforced the need for sustained action, community engagement, and strong partnerships.

Solidarity messages from the Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation and Kasapreko PLC demonstrated that the private sector stood firmly with the fight against malaria.

The Chairman for the occasion, Rev. Kweku Addo, MP for Ablekuma West, in his closing remarks reiterated the urgency of the theme, calling on all stakeholders to intensify efforts in order to achieve a malaria-free society.

The Core Management Team and Heads of Units of the Ga North Municipal Hospital on Thursday, April 9, 2026, underwent a one-day training in leadership and management, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership at all levels of care within the facility.

The training, held at Sunlodge Hotel, was facilitated by Dr. William Okyere Frempong and his team. Sessions were highly interactive, drawing on practical insights relevant to hospital management and service delivery.

The exercise is expected to translate into improved coordination, better decision-making, and ultimately, a higher standard of care for patients accessing services at the facility.
