The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, in collaboration with Kaneshie Polyclinic, will commemorate World Hepatitis Day under the theme "Elimination for Everyone, Everywhere, Right Now!"

Free health screening will be available for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Eye Conditions, Dental, Mental Health, and Tuberculosis, along with treatment for Hepatitis B and C infection.

The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, with support from the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, and the West Africa Health Organisation (WAHO), held a one-day cholera training for frontline health workers and community stakeholders on July 23, 2026, at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

The training brought together 110 participants, made up of 85 community members and 35 health workers drawn from 15 districts across the region. Community members included queen mothers, market queens, information centre officers, assembly members, GPRTU representatives, religious leaders, fishermen, media representatives, and community organisers. Health workers included nurses, disease control officers, environmental health officers, and IPC focal persons.

Facilitators were drawn from the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, led by the Deputy Director Clinical Care along with representatives from the Ghana Health Service, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, CHAG, the Regional Quality Manager, and IPC focal persons.

Sessions covered the current cholera situation in Ghana, case definition, diagnosis, and clinical management, as well as infection prevention and control, WASH practices, and community prevention measures. Participants also brainstormed on best practices to bring cholera transmission in the region to an end.

Hospital Administrators and Health Service Administrators from across the Greater Accra Region met this week for a two-day Continuous Professional Development programme organised by the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate and the Association of Health Service Administrators, Ghana (AHSAG) Greater Accra Caucus, at the Institute of Local Government Studies, Madina.

The programme covered sessions on health statistics, digital tools, and hospital assets and infrastructure management.

The Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. Robert Amesiya, in his keynote address spoke on the role administrators play in the day-to-day running of health facilities and noted that good governance and sound management at the facility level go a long way in determining the quality of care patients receive. He urged participants to see the training as an opportunity to sharpen the skills that support their work.

Presentations centered on the application of health statistics in management decision-making by Dr. Kwasi Addai Donkoh, AHSAG National Council Chairman, and on the use of digital tools for administrative efficiency by Mr. Hammond Sarkwah, Deputy Director for ICT at PPMED, GHS. Mr. Gerald Asakeya, Deputy Director for EMD at HASS GHS, closed the session with a presentation on hospital assets and infrastructure management.

Ga East Municipal Health Directorate organised a DHIMS 2 training on July 8 to build the skills of health workers in data management, reporting, and the use of data for decision-making.

The training brought together Public Health Nurses, Community Health Nurses, Health Information Officers, and Health Directorate staff.

The exercise is part of the Directorate's ongoing work to improve data quality and strengthen health information systems across the municipality.

Shai Osudoku District Health Directorate has organised its maiden Staff Durbar, bringing together staff from health facilities across the district. The event required careful planning, as facilities had to keep running services while staff took part.

The durbar offered the District Director of Health Service, Ms. Hajira Ibrahim, the platform to brief staff on the district's vision, priorities, and expectations. Key Ghana Health Service policies and administrative updates were also shared with staff.

A major highlight was the launch of plans to establish a District Staff Welfare Association. The association will focus on staff welfare, unity, and mutual support.

Staff also took part in an inter-subdistrict musical chairs competition, which brought out teamwork and healthy rivalry among the different subdistricts.

The durbar adds to a growing list of steps the Directorate has taken this year to keep staff engaged, improve communication, and build teamwork across the district's health facilities.

The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, in partnership with Jacaranda Health, has launched PROMPTS, the digital health service known to mothers as "Nurse Mary," together with a new Regional Helpdesk to support pregnant women and new mothers across the region.

The platform sends personalized health tips straight to mothers' phones via SMS, with GHS midwives on standby to answer questions and refer urgent cases to care.

In the pilot phase, 94% of mothers who received appointment reminders through the platform showed up at a health facility, and 74% who reported danger signs received care.

"PROMPTS works. Let's all embrace this intervention. Every pregnant woman deserves timely information and support. Nurse Mary is one more way we're making that possible" said Dr. Robert Amesiya, Regional Director of Health Service.
