''Golden fields, fruitful efforts!
On Friday, October 25, 2024, the Regional Rice Value Chain Development Project (RRVCDP) funded by the Lives and Livelihoods Fund(IsDB), BADEA and the Government of the Gambia witnessed the successful harvesting of 8.5 hectares of upland rice produced by Burong Walol Ltd. This private sector entity is actively involved in rice production within one of the project’s intervention regions in CRRS Pacharr.
The support for this initiative falls under Component 3, Sub-component 3.1 of the RRVCDP, which has established a Line of Finance allocating USD 1.4 million to provide loans to farmers and private sector entities engaged in rice production. The Social Development Fund (SDF), under the Ministry of Finance, is tasked with implementing this financial support, which will be disbursed through two Sharia-compliant products: Salam and Murabaha.
As part of this effort, the project has provided Burong Walol Ltd with a combine harvester to improve harvesting efficiency. The company has expanded its rice production in the Kartong rice-growing scheme, located in the West Coast Region, and the recent harvest utilized the combine harvester procured through the Murabaha Islamic financing product.
This event marked a significant milestone for the RRVCDP, attracting project officials and a diverse cross-section of the community, particularly women and youth, who came out in large numbers to support the initiative.
