His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, today received the Gambia Girl Guides Association, led by its Chief Commissioner, Mrs. Khadijatou A. Jobarteh, at his office for a courtesy call focused on the future of the Association and its Skills Centre.

At the heart of the discussion was a pressing mission: reviving a historic institution that has trained and empowered generations of Gambian girls and young women.

The Skills Centre has provided practical training in tailoring, food and nutrition, tie and dye, housekeeping, and bar and restaurant services, helping young women acquire skills for employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

However, the Association is currently facing significant challenges, including inadequate funding, deteriorating classrooms, leaking facilities, lack of teachers and the need to rehabilitate its skills centre and hostel.

โ€œIf you help a girl child, you help a whole world,โ€ says Khadijatou A. Jobarteh

Vice President Jallow expressed his commitment to supporting efforts to revitalise the Association. He assured the delegation that he would engage relevant authorities and explore avenues for support from philanthropists and other partners.

The message is clear: empowering a girl is empowering a family, a community and ultimately a nation.

Letโ€™s invest in our girls. Letโ€™s restore opportunities. Letโ€™s build a stronger and more self-reliant Gambia-one girl at a time.

His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, today presided over the Maiden Gambia Teachersโ€™ Union Cooperative Credit Union (GTUCCU) Veteransโ€™ Day Celebration at the Baboucar O. Joof Conference GTUCCU Hall in Brikama.

Held under the theme โ€œThe GTUCCU Renaissance: Three Decades of Transformative Impact,โ€ the celebration honoured the pioneers and veterans whose vision, sacrifice and dedication helped transform the GTUCCU into a strong pillar of financial empowerment and socio-economic development.

In his keynote address, Vice President Jallow applauded the pioneers for building an institution founded on the enduring philosophy of โ€œPeople Helping People,โ€ noting that the GTUCCU has empowered thousands of teachers and public servants to build homes, educate their children, establish businesses, acquire assets and secure their financial futures.

โ€œWhen we stabilize the teacher, we stabilize the classroom, and ultimately, we secure the future of the Gambian child.โ€

The Vice President also challenged the GTUCCU to use its three-decade milestone as a launching pad for a new era of innovation, with greater investments in digital transformation, green financing, affordable housing and support for MSMEs, particularly those owned by young people and women.

He further called on the veterans to continue mentoring the next generation of cooperative leaders, describing them as custodians of the institutionโ€™s memory, values and legacy.

The Government of The Gambia, he reaffirmed, remains committed to creating an enabling environment for the cooperative movement to thrive through strengthened policies, regulation and institutional support.

Thirty years of impact. A legacy worth celebrating. A renaissance worth building.

Congratulations to the pioneers, veterans, Board, Management, staff and entire membership of the GTUCCU on this historic milestone.

Long live the GTUCCU!
Long live the cooperative movement!
Long live the Republic of The Gambia!
