West Coast Region Hosts President Barrow as He Launches 36.1km of Roads and Modern Market in Sukuta

The West Coast Region hosted President Adama Barrow as he launched 36.1 kilometres of road projects and laid the foundation stone for a modern market in Sukuta.

The roads launched are:
1. Brikama–Jidda Baba Njie–Toubakuta Road – 6.2km
2. Brikama Newtown Road–Kitty Junction – 2.4km
3. Lamin Waa Juwara–Box Ba Road–Jah Oil, Brikama – 1.0km
4. Lamin CDC–Kubariko–Makumbaya–Galoya–Kubuneh–Kunkujang Jataya–Mandinaring Road – 15km
5. Hamat Bah Junction–OIC Road – 1.3km
6. Jabang–Yuna–Madiana–Tanji Road – 10.2km

Addressing community members, the President thanked them for their support despite the heavy downpour. He assured that within the next five years The Gambia will be better, as government continues to implement projects aimed at impacting the lives of the people.

The Barrow administration is simultaneously developing infrastructure in electricity, education, agriculture, water, and health to improve living standards across the country.

His Excellency President Adama Barrow will today conclude the development tour with groundbreaking ceremonies for new roads and a modern market in the West Coast Region.

Crucially, the new roads in Brikama, Lamin, Sinchu Alagie and Tanji are expected to improve access between communities and support agriculture, trade, and daily commuting.

The new market in Sukuta will provide traders and residents with a modern space to do business and grow the local economy.

President Barrow Concludes Visit to Gabon

His Excellency President Adama Barrow accompanied by First Lady Madam Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow has concluded his visit to the Gabonese Republic where he was Special Guest of Honour for the 66th anniversary celebration of the Gabonese independence.

The celebration day was marked by almost 5 hours of military parade of the country’s defence and security outfit. Students of the military academies and professionals from the various security and defence forces beautifully displayed their uniforms, operational suits and military equipment, ranging from medical to engineering.

With about 25% of its national budget spent on defence , the celebration was an opportunity for a public display of Gabonese military might and capabilities.

A state cocktail reception followed the parade and H.E. President Adama Barrow was given an inspirational tour of the new city of 'Belle Roi' built on reclaimed land from the sea.

Later on Monday evening, President Barrow accompanied by First Lad Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow met with over five hundred Gambians living in Gabon. They expressed their delight in meeting the President and assured him of their support as they witnessed the unprecedented developments shaping the country.

President Barrow reiterated his gratitude to his host for the hospitality extended to him during his visit. Responding to their concerns, the Gambian leader assured them of his determination to continue attending to the needs and aspirations of the people.

Despite criticism of his government’s efforts to provide Gambians abroad with identity documentation, he pledged that his administration will facilitate the process for them. “Gambians living in other African countries are part of the Diaspora,” he emphasised.

President Oligui Nguema and First Lady Zita Nyangui Oligui Nguema saw off the Gambian leader and delegation on Tuesday morning as they departed Leone Mba Airport for Banjul.

The Presidential delegation included the Foreign Minister, Honourable Sering Modou Njie and the Chief of Staff, Alieu Loum.

President Barrow Arrives in Lebriville For Gabon’s Independence Celebration

H.E President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema welcomed H.E. President Adama Barrow at the Leon Mba International Airport with a Guard of Honour as he arrived as Special Guest at the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration of the Republic of Gabon.

Accompanied by the First Lady, Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, Gambians in Gabon gathered in their numbers to welcome President Adama Barrow on Sunday afternoon at the Leon Mba Airport.

President Barrow is among several Heads of State and Government who are attending the celebrations, which started with the inauguration of “Hotel Des Affaires Estrangers Mason Jean Ping.”

Later in the evening, President Oligui Nguema and spouse, H.E Madam Zita Nyangui Oligui Nguema, hosted a State Banquet in honour of the Heads of State and Government and invited guests.

The celebration will continue today with a parade at Place de l’independence.

President Barrow to Travel to Gabon

His Excellency President Adama Barrow is invited as Special Guest at the 66th independence anniversary celebration of the Gabonese Republic on Monday, 17th August 2026.

Accordingly, President Barrow will depart Banjul International Airport tomorrow Sunday, 16th August 2026 at 8:00AM for Libreville, Gabon.

President Barrow Concludes Week-Long Provincial Development Tour

The week-long president rural development tour reached its climax on Friday with an inspection drive through the newly constructed 93KM road on the Eastern part of the Lower River Region (LRR), known as the Kabada stretch and the inauguration of two modern health posts in the area.

For communities along the Kabada, the new road means basic social services and amenities are now at their doorstep. This part of LRR had been neglected for over five decades, isolated and left out of national development. Today, men and women of all age brackets smiled and cheered in gratitude for finally being included in the nation-building agenda of the Barrow administration.

“They have waited for so long. They were paying their taxes but saw no reward. But now, it is their time,” President Barrow said.

In Kiang Geneiri, the ROOTS Project has transformed an abandoned land into a productive rice field with a modern irrigation system. The project also includes a runway and with improved road access for farmers to easily move their produce.

Another target of the project is the establishment of a garden for women to farm vegetables during the dry season.
More than 600 people and 70 households will benefit from this project.

The President expressed appreciation to his government and all stakeholders who made it possible to realise the Kabada road project within a reasonable time.

President Barrow Inaugurates Two Health Posts in LRR

As part of his development tour, President Adama Barrow today inaugurated two new health posts in Madina Sancha and Madina Angalleh in the Lower River Region (LRR).

Previously, residents of these communities and nearby villages had to travel long distances for even basic medical care. Those trips were costly, and highly risky for pregnant women and sick children.

With the new health posts, nurses, midwives, and essential drugs are now available right within the communities.

The project is part of the government’s commitment under the National Development Plan especially on for universal health coverage for all Gambians.

Speaking to the media, President Barrow expressed satisfaction with the progress in LRR. He said the people of the region have been deprived for too long despite paying their taxes. “Gambia is moving and we are not turning back,” he said.

Key developments in LRR include health, agriculture, education, roads, water and electricity among others.

His Excellency President Adama Barrow has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new Governor’s Residence and Office Complex in Mansakonko, Lower River Region - LRR, as part of his development tour.

The facility will provide a proper base for the Governor to coordinate government programmes, host delegations, and deliver services at the regional level.

This is a commitment that every region deserves, dignified government infrastructure and ensuring LRR has the same institutional capacity as other regions.

H.E. President Barrow has inspected the 12.18km Manneh K***a–Demba K***a–Numuyel Road on Thursday, 13th August 2026, under the ongoing 74.5km EPC Lot 1 Roads Project in the Upper River Region (URR).

On the Basse–Dampha K***a–Tambasansang Road, the foundation and drainage are done. Construction of the concrete road is advancing.

Work is also moving ahead on other roads. On the 27km Sutukoba–Chamoi Bunda Road, groundwork is almost finished and drainage work is ongoing. Construction is also progressing well on Santusu - Basse–Manneh K***a stretch, where teams are preparing the roadbed, laying the foundation, and starting concrete work.

President Barrow proceeded to Garawol on the Kantora District of the URR where he inaugurated a 6km road and laid the foundation stone for the construction of an additional 24km of road in Garawol.

Garawol is in a major settlement in the District and depends on farming as a livelihood. With better roads, farmers can transport their farm produce and livestock to markets in Basse and beyond without spoilage. This reduces post-harvest losses and increases household incomes.

During a joint meeting in Garawol, President Barrow further strengthened community health services by handing over an ambulance to the people of Suduwol community, ensuring more accessible healthcare delivery.
