Milestone Achieved!

Through NEDI's partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in The Gambia under the European Union-funded Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme in Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA), 12 training cohorts have been successfully completed across the Greater Banjul Area and other regions of The Gambia.

A total of 360 returning migrants have developed and completed comprehensive business plans through the Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy Training, equipping them with practical roadmaps to launch and grow sustainable businesses.

The project continues to support participants through post-training coaching and mentorship, business development services, business formalization, and access to financial and market opportunities.

Together with IOM and the European Union, NEDI is transforming return into opportunity by empowering Gambian returnees to build resilient businesses and sustainable livelihoods.

Empowering Returnees, Building Futures

NEDI is proud to announce the start of an impactful partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in The Gambia, under the European Union funded Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme in Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA).

Through our new project "Provision of Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy Training, and Business Development Services for Gambian Returnees" we aim to support over 1,000 returning migrants across the Greater Banjul Area and other regions.

Our intervention focuses on three key areas:

✅ Entrepreneurship & Financial Literacy Training
✅ Post-training Business Coaching & Mentorship
✅ Linkages to Business Formalization, Financial Services & Market Integration

Since launching last month, NEDI has successfully conducted eight training cohorts across the GBA and other regions, equipping returnees with the entrepreneurship skills and guidance needed to build sustainable livelihoods.

Together, we are turning return into opportunity.

Our General Manager earlier today gave a closing remark at the Project Closing Ceremony of Centre for Migration & Development ZME, The Gambia held at the SDKJCC. In attendance was The Minister of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment, Resident Ambassador, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Gambia, Vice Chancellor USET, Regional Director GIZ Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Cape Verde among other delegates.

Extending sincere appreciation to the Germany Government for the invaluable support provided through Global Programme “Centres for Migration and Development” (ZME) in The Gambia and its predecessor Programme Migration for Development, PME.

She reiterated that the initiative has been instrumental in supporting partner institutions to strengthen capacities and structures to provide targeted and sustainable support services to migrants and disadvantaged members of the local communities, ensuring services remain inclusive and responsive to those in need.

With support from GIZ, partner institutions came together to reflect on how cooperation at regional level could be strengthened – not only through individual activities, but through a more structured and sustainable approach. It was through this shared reality that the Local Cohesion and Cooperation Approach, or LCCA, began to take shape.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, our officials equally took the delegation through our interventions with the GIZ ZME with NEDI leading in the coordination, entrepreneurship training, business formalization and coaching of the beneficiaries.

The Ceremony concluded with the signing of MOU among partners in their quest for commitment to collaboration, local ownership, and sustained partnership beyond the project itself.
