The Farafenni Police Intervention Unit on the night of Tuesday, July 15, 2026, conducted routine night visibility patrols across the Upper North Bank Region as part of ongoing efforts to prevent crime, enhance police visibility, and maintain public safety.

The patrol team, led by Inspector Mass Jawara, was deployed onboard a police operational vehicle following an operational briefing ahead of the exercise.

Security agencies in the West Coast Region have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding communities through coordinated joint security operations aimed at preventing crime and enhancing public safety.

On the night of Wednesday, July 15, 2026, personnel drawn from various defence and law enforcement agencies assembled at the West Coast Regional Police Headquarters in Banjulinding for an operational briefing ahead of a coordinated overnight patrol across the region.

Following the briefing, the Joint Security Task Force deployed to strategic locations and identified crime-prone communities, conducting visibility patrols designed to deter criminal activities, enhance public confidence, and ensure a rapid response to security concerns.

The operation forms part of ongoing collaborative efforts by the country’s security services to strengthen inter-agency cooperation, maintain law and order, and promote a safe and secure environment for all residents.

URR JOINT SECURITY TASK FORCE CONDUCTS NIGHT PATROLS ACROSS BASSE DIVISION

The Upper River Region (URR) Joint Security Task Force on the night of Tuesday, July 15, 2026, conducted coordinated visibility patrols across the Basse Division as part of ongoing efforts to prevent crime, enhance police visibility, and strengthen public safety.

The operation involved personnel from the Gambia Police Force (GPF), Gambia Immigration Department (GID), and the Police Intervention Unit (PIU). Prior to deployment, the team received an operational briefing from the Regional Sergeant Major (RSM), Inspector Saidy, who emphasised professionalism, vigilance, and discipline throughout the operation.

Led by Sergeant Nying, the patrol covered several communities and strategic locations, including Jendeh, Darsilami, Sara Njai, Yorro Bawol, Basse Main Garage, Bansang Garage, GPTC Bus Stop, Koba K***a, Bypass, Santasu, Mansanjang, Giroba, the Riverside, Layout, Kerr Mike, and MSK, while monitoring identified hotspots and other areas vulnerable to criminal activities.

The patrol concluded without any security incidents, with all areas visited remaining calm, peaceful, and secure, and no criminal activities observed.

SEREKUNDA JOINT SECURITY TASK FORCE CONDUCTS MARKET VISIBILITY PATROLS

The Serrekunda Joint Security Task Force on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, conducted routine visibility foot patrols within the Serrekunda Main Market as part of ongoing efforts to enhance police presence, deter crime, and reassure traders and members of the public.

Prior to deployment, personnel assembled for an afternoon parade, where they received an operational briefing emphasising punctuality, regular attendance at work, discipline, and professionalism in the ex*****on of their duties.

Following the briefing, officers were deployed across various sections of the market to maintain visibility, engage members of the public, and promote a safe and secure trading environment.

GPF LEADS JOINT SECURITY COORDINATION TO STRENGTHEN NATIONWIDE PATROLS

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Alhagie Demba Sowe, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, chaired a high-level security coordination meeting with Deputy Service Chiefs, Chiefs of Operations, and Regional Commissioners of the West Coast, Kanifing, and Banjul Regions from the country’s defence and law enforcement agencies at the Police Headquarters in Banjul.

The meeting was convened to strengthen inter-agency coordination and operational planning in response to emerging security concerns, with particular emphasis on enhancing joint security patrols, intelligence sharing, crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property across the country.

Speaking during the meeting, the Deputy Inspector General of Police underscored the importance of unity of purpose, professionalism and sustained collaboration among all security institutions in addressing current and emerging security threats. He emphasised that coordinated operations remain critical to maintaining public order, reassuring communities and preserving national peace and stability.

Discussions also focused on reviewing the prevailing security situation, improving operational coordination and identifying strategies to enhance the effectiveness of joint patrols and rapid response mechanisms nationwide.

The meeting reaffirmed the collective commitment of the country’s defence and law enforcement agencies to work together in safeguarding national security and ensuring the continued safety and well-being of all residents.

GPF EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR COLLECTION OF VEHICLE NUMBER PLATES AND DRIVER’S LICENCES

Date: July 14, 2026

The Gambia Police Force hereby informs the public that the deadline for the collection of vehicle registration number plates has been extended to Monday, July 20, 2026.

Members of the public whose vehicle number plates have already been processed and printed are urged to collect them from the following stations:

* Banjul
* Kairaba
* Brikama

For enquiries regarding the collection of vehicle number plates, the public may contact:

The Gambia Police Force reminds all motorists that operating a vehicle without properly assigned and displayed registration number plates is a violation of the country’s traffic laws and may attract enforcement action.

Accordingly, enforcement operations will commence immediately after the expiration of the extended deadline on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Motorists are therefore strongly advised to regularise their documentation and collect their vehicle number plates within the stipulated period to avoid inconvenience and possible penalties.

BANJUL REGIONAL JOINT SECURITY TASK FORCE DEPLOYS FOR NIGHT PATROLS

The Banjul Regional Joint Security Task Force on Monday night, July 14, 2026, commenced another round of coordinated night patrols within the City of Banjul as part of the Gambia Police Force’s ongoing efforts to enhance police visibility, prevent crime, and maintain public safety.

The operation brought together personnel from the Gambia Police Force (GPF), Gambia Immigration Department (GID), Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), and other partner security services.

Prior to deployment, officers assembled at Banjul Police Station, where they received an operational briefing from Sub-Inspector Ceesay. During the briefing, officers were reminded to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, honesty, perseverance, discipline, and commitment while carrying out their duties.

Following the briefing, the Joint Security Task Force departed on a coordinated patrol across the City of Banjul to enhance police visibility, deter criminal activities, reassure members of the public, and strengthen security within the capital.

LRR REGIONAL POLICE CONDUCTS COMMUNITY POLICING OUTREACH IN TORANTANKA BANTA

The Lower River Region (LRR) Regional Police Command, through its Community Policing Unit, on Monday, July 14, 2026, conducted a community policing outreach programme at Torantanka Banta Village in Kiang East District as part of the Gambia Police Force’s continued efforts to strengthen police-community relations, promote public safety, and prevent crime.

The outreach, led by Superintendent Camara, brought together village elders, students, teachers, and other community members, providing an opportunity for meaningful engagement on key security and social issues affecting the community.

During the sensitisation, officers highlighted the importance of community policing as a shared responsibility between the Police and the public. Participants were encouraged to strengthen collaboration with the Police through the timely reporting of crimes and suspicious activities, while recognising that trust and cooperation remain essential to effective crime prevention.

The programme also featured presentations on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), including sexual harassment, child marriage, sexual exploitation, and teenage pregnancy. Participants were encouraged to promote safe learning environments, while parents, teachers, and community leaders were urged to play an active role in protecting children and supporting victims of abuse.

In addition, discussions focused on moral values, the roles and responsibilities of the Police and Alkalolu, as well as the dangers of tribalism and election-related violence. Officers reaffirmed the Gambia Police Force’s commitment to professionalism, impartiality, and the maintenance of peace and public order.

The outreach concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants shared their views and sought clarification on policing and community safety issues. Community members and teachers expressed appreciation to the Lower River Region Regional Police Command for the timely initiative and pledged their continued support by working closely with the Police and promptly reporting suspicious activities.
