Tasking - Lough Corrib

Galway Civil Defence boat crews were tasked this afternoon to Lough Corrib following reports of overdue kayakers.

Mobilised by An Garda Síochána Galway and the Irish Coast Guard our crews responded promptly to the search area alongside Rescue 115.

Thankfully, a short time later, confirmation was received that the kayakers had been located safe and well.

A team from Galway Civil Defence travelled to Mayo to support the public safety operation and to oversee the homecoming celebrations, working alongside primary response agencies to help ensure a safe and successful event for all.

Congratulations to Mayo on a historic All-Ireland victory. Well deserved, and a day that will live long in the memory. Enjoy every minute of the celebrations!

A fantastic day spent with the students and staff of Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh as emergency service personnel from across Galway came together to showcase the work we do in our communities.

From ambulances, fire appliances and Garda vehicles to search dogs, mounted units and Civil Defence resources, students had the opportunity to meet crews, explore equipment and learn about safety, teamwork and public service.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success, and to the school for the warm welcome. It was great to see so much enthusiasm and interest from the next generation!

Our boat crew recently completed an Advanced Powerboat Course delivered by Donnacha from Safe Water Training .

Investing in high-quality training is essential for a volunteer organisation like Civil Defence Ireland. Advanced powerboat skills enhance our crew's ability to operate safely and effectively in challenging conditions, improve navigation and boat handling capabilities, and strengthen our preparedness for search and rescue, flood response, and other emergency support operations.

Continuous training ensures our volunteers have the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to support local communities when called upon.
