After what seems like an eternity, we (my eldest son and I) are getting out for a drive around Connemara today before he heads off on his transition year school tour ski holiday in Italy at the weekend! When I was in school you would be lucky to get to a local historic landmark (and none of us had any interest in that as teens!) for a day trip! Great to be able to spend some time with my fast growing lad who also loves our trips out West. Its going to be a great day! ❤️

A project that I have such a personal interest in as I have all my life been fascinated by the long since closed Galway to Clifden railway line. Jim Deegan and his volunteers are passionately trying to reopen a section of thar line with the Maam Cross Connemara Railway Project and its a non profit project so fundraising is through their gofundme page.

A gorgeous capture from Rogans Renvyle . You can just about make out that red gate which also featured in a photo I shared yesterday. The Renvyle peninsula loop drive has some incredible scenery ery and is well worth a spin (although there are some very tempting stops along the way!).

This is a photo from yesteryear, (probably late 1940's,early 50's?) ,market day on market street in Clifden. The mustard coloured building in the background is where ODalaigh Jewellers shop is now (Apologies, where it was until it moved to beside .J.Kings). I love images like this from the past,thanks to the great work by Declan Guy .

Despite having some dose of a cold today and a throat drier than the Sahara desert, watching our boys play competitive sport over the past few days in the rain and bitter cold was worth it!!

For me, this is the gateway to Connemara from the Cong direction. The view ,just 50 yards or so, overlooking Lough Corrib is one incredible introduction to Connemara and a taste of what you can expect. It never ceases to impress and excite me!
