in 1956, Dr delivered his historic speech “The Buddha & Karl Marx”, before delegates of the 4th World Buddhist Conference held at Katmandu, Nepal. The King of Nepal Mahendra, Mrs Ambedkar & Bhante Chandramani are also seen in pic.
Dr said, Karl Marx begins with what is called exploitation of the poor. What does the Buddha say? He said, “There is ‘Dukkha’ in the world.” He did not use the word, exploitation’ but he did lay the foundation of his religion on what is called "Dukkha". The word ‘Dukkha’no doubt has been interpreted in various ways.
It has been interpreted to mean rebirth,the round of life,that is Dukkha. I do not agree with that. I think there are lots of places in the Buddha literature where he has used the word ‘Dukkha’in the sense of poverty. Dr further said, It is unnecessary for the Buddhist people to go to Karl Marx to get that foundation. That foundation is already there, well laid. It is the first proposition with which the Buddha begins his sermon-the Dharma-Chakra Paribartana Sutta. Therefore, to those who are attracted by Karl Marx, I say, study the Dharma-Chakra Paribartan Sutta and find out what the Buddha says.
And you will find sufficient satisfaction on this question.The Buddha did not lay the foundation of his religion either on god, or on soul, or anything supernatural as to that. He laid his finger on the fact of life people are living in suffering. Therefore so far as Marxism or Communism is concerned, Buddhism has enough of it.

Exactly 74 years ago in 1949, Dr , Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution launched the proceedings of the Constituent Assembly of India by moving “That the Constitution as settled by the Assembly be passed”. There were “cheers” from the members of the Assembly upon hearing the motion. ’s motion was the beginning of the third reading of the draft Constitution. It had, over the course of the previous year, passed through two readings already. This was to be the final round.

First Round Table Conference was held during 12 Nov 1930 – 13 January 1931 at London. Dr , during his presentation in 1931 round table conference, described the Indian society as divided in three distinct sections — Hindus, Muslims & the depressed classes.Dr further stated that India can be truly independent only if these classes elect their own representatives for taking part in the process of government. , thus, juxtaposed the class concept on caste division in India.
In the first round table conference Dr broadly categorized SC/ST as depressed class, as almost all of them are in the same economic and social situation.He, therefore, demanded and got separate electorate for the depressed classes in 1930s.
समाजसुधारक राजारामशास्त्री भागवत यांचा आज जन्मदिन. कोल्हापूर येथे जेव्हा वेदोक्त प्रकरण गाजले,त्यावेळी मराठे क्षत्रिय आहेत असे शास्त्राधारयुक्त मत व्यक्त करून राजारामशास्त्री यांनी शाहू महाराजांचा पक्ष घेतला. मराठा मुलांची उपनयने चालू व्हावीत म्हणून कोल्हापूर-बेळगाव येथे जाऊन स्वतः त्यांनी पौरोहित्य केली त्यांना गायत्री मंत्र दिला. दीनबंधु ह्या सत्यशोधक मुखपत्रात जीवनाच्या अखेरपर्यंत त्यांनी अनेक वादळी लेख लिहिले.लोकहितवादींच्या धारदार शतपत्रांत त्यांनी भरच घातली. #जोतीरावफुले व राजारामशास्त्री यांच्या काही प्रतिपादनात व कृतींत साम्य आढळते. स्त्रियांची सुधारणा व सुशिक्षण यासंबंधानेही शास्त्रीबोवांनी प्रयत्न केले. त्यांनी सत्यशोधक चळवळीतील दोषही स्पष्टपणे सांगितले होते. जोतीरावात ‘बाम्हणेतर’ ही संज्ञा अभावाने आढळते पण राजारामशास्त्र्यांनी ती वापरून रूढ केली तसेच बहुजनसमाज पुढे यावा म्हणून झंजावती व्याख्याने दिली. अ. भा. मराठी शिक्षण परिषदेच्या कार्याचा वऱ्हाडात प्रचार व्हावा म्हणून त्यांनी दौरा काढला होता तिकडे त्यांचे मोठे स्वागत झाले. भास्करराव जाधव यांचा वेदपुराणे आदिकरून संस्कृत ग्रंथाचा संशोधनपर अभ्यास राजारामशास्त्र्यांच्या सहवासातून वाढला.
राजारामशास्त्र्यांनी परकीय सरकारची नोकरी, अनुदान किंवा कोणापासूनच मानधनाची अपेक्षा केली नाही. आजही त्यांचे कित्येक क्रांतीकारक विचार समाजप्रबोधन करू शकतात.
हिंदुधर्मविवेचक पत्राचे शास्त्रीबोवा काही वर्षे संपादक होते. केरळ कोकीळ, इंदुप्रकाश, नेटिव्ह ओपिनियन, विविधज्ञान विस्तार ज्ञानप्रकाश पुणे वैभव इ.नियतकालिकांतून राजारामशास्त्र्यांचे बाणेदार लेख, खरमरीत टीका, उत्तरे-प्रतिउत्तरे करणारी पत्रे प्रसिद्ध झाली. तत्त्वज्ञान, काव्य, कथा, पुस्तक परीक्षण, वैद्यक आरोग्य, पदार्थविज्ञान, प्राचीन संस्कृतिसंशोधन, देशी भाषा, आमचा देश व देशी लोक, ज्योतिष, वैदिक व पौराणिक चर्चा वगैरे विषयांचा ऊहापोह त्यांनी त्यांतून केला. शास्त्रीबोवांची चाळीसच्यावर पुस्तकेत्यांच्या हयातीतच प्रसिद्ध झाला. त्यांत मराठ्यांसंबंधाने चार उद्गार (१८८७), ब्राह्मण व ब्राम्हणीधर्म (१८८९), शिवछत्रपतींचे चरित्र (१८९२) इ. महत्त्वाच्या पुस्तकांचा अंतर्भाव असून ही पुस्तके त्यांच्या चतुरस्त्र विद्वत्तेची आजही साक्ष देतात. वेद-वेदान्त, गीता व तत्सम धर्मपर विषयांतर त्यांची इंग्रजीतही वेगवेगळी दहा निबंधवजा पुस्तके प्रसिद्ध आहेत. त्यांचे निवडक लेख दुर्गाबाई भागवत यांनी संपादून कै. राजारामशास्त्री भागवत यांचे निवडक लेख (१९५०) ह्या शीर्षकाने प्रसिद्ध केले आहेत.

said that if the Scheduled Castes were frustrated in their attempt to rise the status of equality, the scheduled castes might prefer the "Communist System" & the fate of the country would be doomed. To avoid any such revolution politicians should recognise the problem urgently.Dr deplored that though the Constitution had introduced the system of Adult Franchise recognising the principle of "One Man One Vote" in the economic & social life of India that principle had not been adopted.
referred to the problem & said that Kashmir is not a Unitary State. It was composite state, consisting of Hindus, Buddhist & Muslims. Jammu & Ladak were non muslim areas where as the Kashmir valley was Muslim. Dr Ambedkar said, "We do not know how the Kashmiris will vote but India is committed to the United Nations for an overall plebiscite. If the plebiscite goes in favour of Pakistan what will happen to the 20 percent non-Muslim population? that is a very big question. If we cannot save the whole of Kashmiris at least let us save our kith and kin. It is a plain analysis of pact which cannot be denied.

in the year 1948, Dr ,formally introduced the Draft Constitution in the Constituent Assembly. Every member had a copy along with the set of amendments recommended by the Drafting Committee in light of comments & suggestions it received.
In his speech, Dr gave an overview of the Draft and addressed some controversies that emerged around it. The initial reactions of the Assembly members to the Draft were mixed. While some applauded it, others were disappointed – for e.g. members were unhappy that the Draft did not base the administrative and political structure of India on principles of Panchayati Raj.
