DSF conducted class campaigns today, talking to students about the devastating flood situation in Assam, where 78 lives have already been lost. We spoke about how this crisis has been worsened year after year by the state government’s failure to plan for flood management, unchecked construction over wetlands, deforestation and unregulated mining.

We appealed to everyone to donate generously to organisations supplying relief materials to flood affected families in Assam.

We also spoke about how this is not merely a natural disaster but a crisis worsened year after year by the state government’s failure to plan for flood management, unchecked construction over wetlands and natural drainage channels, deforestation and hill cutting in catchment areas, unregulated sand mining along riverbanks, and hydropower projects pushed through fragile ecological zones without real assessment or consultation.

We appealed to everyone to donate generously to organisations supplying relief materials to flood affected families in Assam. Every contribution can help someone rebuild their life.

A delegation comprising members of the JNUSU, including representatives of the Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF), visited Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Rampur, to express solidarity with the students and faculty resisting the ongoing assault on their institution.

Despite heavy barricading, repeated attempts to prevent our entry, and an atmosphere of intimidation, the delegation persisted and met with students and teachers to hear firsthand about the situation on campus.

The attack on Mohammad Ali Jauhar University is not merely an attack on one institution - it is part of a larger pattern of shrinking democratic spaces, targeting minority educational institutions, and using state machinery to silence dissent.

Following sustained resistance and widespread public outrage, the Moradabad Commissioner has stayed the demolition orders issued against the university buildings. While this is an important temporary relief, the struggle is far from over. The threat to the university remains, and students and faculty continue to face uncertainty and intimidation.

DSF extends its unwavering solidarity to the students, teachers, and workers of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. We reaffirm our commitment to defending public education, institutional autonomy, and democratic rights.
