The Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius) is a small and colourful freshwater fish native to South Asia, including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. In India, it is associated with freshwater habitats of the Ganga and Brahmaputra river systems and prefers slow-moving, well-vegetated waters.
Known for its striking colours, this fascinating fish has a labyrinth organ that allows it to take oxygen directly from atmospheric air. The male builds a bubble nest and guards the eggs after spawning, making its breeding behaviour equally remarkable.
Small in size but rich in colour and character, the Dwarf Gourami is an important part of South AsiaтАЩs freshwater ornamental fish diversity.
