IIIDEM hosted a high-level briefing session for Permanent Representatives to the United Nations from 16 countries on 3 August 2026.
DG, IIIDEM Shri. Rakesh Verma welcomed the participants and thanked the Ministry of External Affairs for facilitating the visit. He shared IIIDEM's mandate in democratic governance and election management, outlining the institute's four strategic pillars of strengthening national programs, expanding global programmes and engagements, encouraging research and knowledge development, and promotion and advocacy.
Emphasizing that every democracy faces its own unique challenges, he underlined the importance of nations coming together for mutual learning and growth, and expressed hope that the visiting dignitaries would find the session both engaging and enriching.
The visiting dignitaries were briefed on India’s Electoral System by Head CNT Mr. Kapil Sharma, IIIDEM’s Global Programs by Prof Chanchal Sharma, Dean School of Election Management and about India’s Chairship of Council of Member States by Assistant Professor Kritika Mathur.
The delegates were also given a demonstration of India's Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system. Delegates were familiarized with its design, functioning, security features, and institutional safeguards.
