DIET, Gyalshing (18th–26th May 2026)

The Ministry of Education launched the Bharatiya Bhasa Summer Camp (BBSC), a nationwide initiative promoting multilingualism among school students from Classes I to XII with effect from 13th May to June 2026. The programme provides children with a joyful and immersive opportunity to learn basic conversational skills in an Indian language other than their mother tongue. In this regard, DIET, Gyalshing organised the Bharatiya Bhasa Summer Camp cm Cultural Festival from 18th to 26th May 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation of trainees and faculties.

The programme began with day-wise and community-wise presentations highlighting the culture, traditions, customs and scripts of different communities. Through various cultural activities, the trainees beautifully showcased the richness and diversity of the indigenous communities of Sikkim. The programme also emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous languages and cultural heritage.

The activities conducted during the week were as follows:
• Day 1: Opening ceremony of Bharatiya Bhasa Summer Camp presented by the 2nd semester trainees.
• Day 2: Presentation by the Nepali community.
• Day 3: Focus on the Lepcha community.
• Day 4: Traditional Fashion Show showcasing diverse ethnic attires.
• Day 5: Presentation on the Limboo and Gurung communities, where trainees highlighted their unique traditions, language, customs and cultural identity.
• Day 6: Focus on the Rai, Newar, Sherpa and Tamang communities and trainees of 4th semester also presented ISL Indian sign language.
• Day 7: Conclusion ceremony of Bharatiya Bhasa Summer Camp cm Cultural Festival.

During the concluding programme, trainees enthusiastically presented community-wise stalls, traditional cuisines and vibrant cultural performances representing different communities. The programme was graced by Mr. Rajesh Thapa, Joint Director, DEO Gyalshing as the Chief Guest and Mr. B.B. Rai, Deputy Director, DEO Gyalshing as the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests included Ms. Anita Rana, Primary Incharge, Kyongsa GSSS, and part-time lecturers Mr. Dadup Tshering Lepcha and Ms. Dhan Maya Limboo.

The programme was conducted successfully with great zeal and enthusiasm, fulfilling the objectives of the Bharatiya Bhasa Summer Camp. The guests appreciated the efforts of DIET, Gyalshing and blessed the gathering with their words of wisdom and encouragement.

Mr. Rajesh Thapa encouraged the teacher trainees to remain sincere, dedicated and committed to their profession while practising in real classroom situations in the future. Mr. B.B. Rai appreciated the excellent presentations that beautifully showcased the history, traditions, customs and cultural identity of various communities.

Mrs. Parumita Rai, Principal, DIET, Gyalshing also addressed the gathering and appreciated the sincere efforts of all trainees and faculties for successfully organising the programme. She congratulated everyone for making the Bharatiya Bhasa Summer Camp cm Cultural Festival a grand success and encouraged the trainees to continue preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage and linguistic diversity of the nation.

On Monday , the focus was on the Rai, Newar, Sherpa and Tamang community, where trainees presented the unique traditions, language, customs and cultural identity of the Rai, Newar, Sherpa and Tamang people of Sikkim. Different cultural performances and informative sessions created awareness and appreciation among the participants.

On 19th and 20th May 2026, the trainees of 2nd semester and 4th semester respectively attended a short introductory session on Art of Living’s Happiness Program. The session was conducted by Mr. Bhushan Rai,Teacher,Art of Living Foundation with the aim of encouraging mindfulness,positivity and holistic wellbeing among the participants.

During the one hour session,Mr. Bhushan Rai spoke about the importance of soft skills in both personal and professional life. He shared that in order to become successful, one needs consistency, confidence, and clarity. The session was interactive and engaging, where trainees participated in different activities, practiced Bhastrika Pranayam, and meditation exercises. The program created a calm and positive atmosphere and helped trainees feel relaxed and motivated.
Principal Madam,along with faculty and staff members,participated separately in the orientation programme organised by the Art of Living Foundation.

At the end of the sessions,trainees Rubiksha Sharma and Chunam Rai delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to Guruji Mr. Bhushan Rai for conducting such an inspiring and meaningful session.

A sharing session was held at DIET, Gyalshing for fourth semester trainees on their 3rd/final phase School Internship Programme in the presence of the Principal and faculty members of DIET, Gyalshing

The main objectives of this sharing session was to reflect on their experiences, share observations, discuss challenges faced and strategies used in overcoming them.

It allowed them to reflect on their learning journey, share their insights and identify areas for improvement. By incorporating the recommendations suggested by the faculties during the session, the future SIPs can be further enhanced to provide more meaningful and effective learning experience for all trainees.

Continuing with the ongoing programme of Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp 2026, DIET, Gyalshing has been observing the camp activities every day with great enthusiasm and active participation from the trainees.

On Tuesday, Nepali Bhasha and Sanskriti were observed where trainees showcased the richness of Nepali language, culture and traditions. The programme highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous languages and cultural heritage.

On Wednesday, the focus was on the Lepcha community, where trainees presented the unique traditions, language, customs and cultural identity of the Lepcha people. Different cultural performances and informative sessions created awareness and appreciation among the participants.

Further continuing the celebration, Thursday witnessed a Traditional Fashion Show organised in a grand manner. Trainees enthusiastically participated by wearing different traditional attires representing various communities and cultures of Sikkim. The colourful presentation added vibrancy to the programme and promoted the spirit of unity in diversity.
