Sambar deer play a crucial role in maintaining the health and balance of Karnataka's forests, especially in protected areas such as Bandipur National Park, Nagarahole National Park, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, and Male Mahadeshwara Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.

• Primary prey for large carnivores:
Sambar are the most important prey species for tiger and are also hunted by Indian leopard and Dhole. Healthy sambar populations help sustain these predators.

• Forest regeneration:
By feeding on leaves, grasses, fruits, and shoots, and dispersing seeds through their droppings, they contribute to natural forest regeneration and plant diversity.

• Indicator of a healthy forest:
A thriving sambar population usually indicates good habitat quality, sufficient water, and a functioning ecosystem capable of supporting large predators.

ರಣಹದ್ದುಗಳು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತಾ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಸತ್ತ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಕಳೇಬರಗಳನ್ನು ಆಹಾರವಾಗಿ ಸೇವಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಪರಿಸರವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಚ್ಛವಾಗಿಡುವುದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕ ರೋಗಗಳ ಹರಡುವಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ತಡೆಯುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಪಾತ್ರವಹಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.

ಪಿಜಿ ಪಾಳ್ಯ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಫಾರಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಹುಲಿ, ಚಿರತೆ, ಆನೆ, ಕಾಡೆಮ್ಮೆ, ಜಿಂಕೆ, ಕರಡಿ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹಲವು ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳ ದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದೀಗ ಅಪರೂಪದ ರಣಹದ್ದುಗಳ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆಯೂ ಸೇರಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಪಕ್ಷಿ ವೀಕ್ಷಕರು, ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಾಹಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರಿಗೆ ಇದು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ತಾಣವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಅರಣ್ಯ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಕ್ರಮಗಳು, ಅರಣ್ಯದ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಪರಿಸರ ಹಾಗೂ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳಿಂದ ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಆಶಾದಾಯಕ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಹನೂರು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಮಲೆ ಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಅಭಯಾರಣ್ಯದ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪಿಜಿ ಪಾಳ್ಯ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಫಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪರೂಪದ ರಣಹದ್ದುಗಳು (Vultures) ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಪ್ರೇಮಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಪಕ್ಷಿ ವೀಕ್ಷಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂತಸ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದೆ.

ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಿಜಿ ಪಾಳ್ಯ ಅರಣ್ಯ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಯಾಮೆರಾ ಟ್ರ್ಯಾಪ್ ಹಾಗೂ ನೇರ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಕೆಂಪು ತಲೆಯ ರಣಹದ್ದು (Red-headed Vulture) ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ **ಬಿಳಿ ಬೆನ್ನಿನ ರಣಹದ್ದು (White-rumped Vulture), ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಣಹದ್ದು (Indian Vulture) ಹಾಗೂ ಈಜಿಪ್ಷಿಯನ್ ರಣಹದ್ದು (Egyptian Vulture)**ಗಳ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿರುವುದು ಈ ಅರಣ್ಯ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಜೀವ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಸಮೃದ್ಧಗೊಳಿಸಿದೆ.

ರಣಹದ್ದುಗಳು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತಾ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತವೆ. ಸತ್ತ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಕಳೇಬರಗಳನ್ನು ಆಹಾರವಾಗಿ ಸೇವಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಪರಿಸರವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಚ್ಛವಾಗಿಡುವುದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕ ರೋಗಗಳ ಹರಡುವಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ತಡೆಯುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಪಾತ್ರವಹಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.

ಪಿಜಿ ಪಾಳ್ಯ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಫಾರಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಹುಲಿ, ಚಿರತೆ, ಕರಿಚಿರತೆ, ಆನೆ, ಕಾಡೆಮ್ಮೆ, ಜಿಂಕೆ, ಕರಡಿ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹಲವು ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳ ದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದೀಗ ಅಪರೂಪದ ರಣಹದ್ದುಗಳ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆಯೂ ಸೇರಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಪಕ್ಷಿ ವೀಕ್ಷಕರು, ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಾಹಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರಿಗೆ ಇದು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ತಾಣವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಅರಣ್ಯ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಕ್ರಮಗಳು, ಅರಣ್ಯದ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಪರಿಸರ ಹಾಗೂ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳಿಂದ ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಆಶಾದಾಯಕ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.
