Preventing drowning starts with awareness and action. WHO India and DLTA partnered to invite Olympian Mr Hakimuddin Habibulla to demonstrate that swimming is not just a sport or a fun activity—it is a life-saving skill. Preventing drowning requires close supervision of children, safer water environments, swimming and water safety skills, and knowing how to respond in an emergency. While anyone can drown, no one should.

Auxiliary nurse midwife Ms Deepa Gaur from the Attri Subcentre, vaccinating eight-month-old Raunak Adivasi at a outreach session in Puranpura village, Ghatigaon. Ms Gaur and community health officer Ms Sonia Shakya carried vaccines and essential supplies over 2 km on unpaved terrain to immunize children in Puranpura, home to 25 families and eight children under five. WHO teams support planning and routine immunization surveillance.

Precision. Effectiveness. Safety. End Neglected Tropical Diseases.
WHO Representative to India, Dr. Yvan J.-F. Hutin, handed over 850 hand compression pumps to the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control to strengthen indoor residual spraying of insecticide in the homes of affected communities in the kala azar-endemic states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Always used while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), precision HCPs help deliver the right dose of insecticide accurately and safely, protecting communities by killing sandflies that spread kala-azar (visceral leishmaniasis).
Strengthening high-quality vector control is essential to sustaining India's progress toward eliminating kala-azar as a public health problem.
