The AISF was founded on August 12, 1936, and is the first Indian federation of students to work for the independence of India. The idea of such a federation was mooted by late Indian Prime Minister Shri.Jawaharlal Nehru and over the years it has been instrumental in shaping several great leaders like former President of India, Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, former PM, Shri.Atal Bihari Vajpayee, D.Raja, M.P, Rajya Sabha and many others who started their political career through this students' federation. It witnessed an unprecedented number of students who came forward to struggle for the independence of India.
