It was a pleasure for New Zealand's Ambassador-designate Anais Kedgley Laidlaw to meet with Chief of Protocol Bruno Antonio Pasquino at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to present copies of her letters of credence.

An important milestone ahead of the formal presentation of credentials and the beginning of what we look forward to being a strong and productive partnership with our Italian counterparts, further strengthening the longstanding friendship between New Zealand and Italy.

It was an honour for Chargé d’Affaires Joanna Heslop to join the community of Scandicci in commemorating its liberation during WWII and the unveiling of a new trilingual memorial stele bearing the names of the 198 New Zealand soldiers who gave their lives in the Battle of San Michele a Torri, one of the fiercest battles of the Italian Campaign.

As we honour the fallen, we also reaffirm our shared commitment to peace, democracy, and the values for which they gave so much.

Greece is currently experiencing very high temperatures, with severe fire warnings in place across the country. Wildfires are affecting multiple areas of the country including the islands of Crete and Le**os. Fires can start close to cities and tourist locations with little warning and travel quickly. Air quality may deteriorate due to heavy smoke.

It was an honour and a true pleasure for Chargé d’Affaires Joanna Heslop and the New Zealand Embassy team in Rome to welcome Eraia Kiel and Nick Dallimore from New Zealand Māori Arts & Crafts Institute

During their visit, they gifted the Embassy a beautiful poupou — a traditional Māori carving originally carved by master-carver Albert Poai Te Pou in 1979.

In a heartfelt expression of gratitude, the Embassy team performed a waiata composed by our Chargé d’Affaires especially for the New Zealand Embassy in Rome.

The poupou has now found a new home in Italy, a country with which New Zealand shares deep and enduring ties, forged in part through our shared wartime history and strengthened by the bonds between our people. We are honoured to care for this special taonga.
